Because 4th wall breaking commentary is the only way to be humorous. I think spider-man SHOULD be hilarious and light hearted combined with a sense of gravity/threat/pathos. It's what separates the franchise from say, Batman. What I could do without is the snarky one-liners but hey, just me.

. . . do you even read Spider-Man? Half of the appeal is Peter Parker's sense of humor.
