Filming in Virgin Islands late February, release date sometime this year, expected length only 15 minutes but higher quality than Megaman, a mix of live action and CG in the vein of the original Star Wars movies, human freedom fighters but with a story primarily in the games' continuity. Apparently the older sound of Jaleel's voice is intentional; he did takes in the original voice, but the writers felt like going with a darker sounding voice because they're under the impression that Sonic was about 12 years old in the cartoons and wanted him to sound more like his age in the games.

I'm looking forward to it. I don't even care about the story; the nostalgia factor of the voice is just too much.

Good news there! After the assault on my attention span that was their Megaman movie, and then this interview, I was expecting something else that was in bad, bad need of editing. I might actually be excited about it now!

It's Confirmed. Jaleel White can still voice Sonic perfectly
Agreed. Hell, they should have just given Jaleel the job after they canned Jason, instead of that new guy. Especially considering that, judging from what we saw in Colors, Sega seems to be trying to turn Sonic into his old "totally radical" 90's self again anyway. And nobody can play a totally radical Sonic better than Jaleel.

His spines are liquorish tape...

Well, other then Jaleel's sensual, almost orgasmic voice, I find it hard (heh) to justify making an effort to even watch this.

Also, his mouth looks like a shaved vagina/pubis. Back me up Delphine, you work with these daily.

Misguided though it is, I can understand why they might want to add more detail and texture to Sonic. It's the very dark shade of blue that really baffles me. Jaleel White's "adult" Sonic voice is definitely better than the one he used in the cartoons. In retrospect it might have been a good idea for Sega to test this out with Sonic Adventure, for sake of franchise continuity.

Yup, razor bumps. Should have used a little peroxide.

It was probably more cost-effective to go with an unknown like Drummond. Jaleel would've wanted a much bigger paycheck.

They updated Sonic's model.

Also, this is the guy who will be playing Eggman. He definitely looks the part.

You have to admire their effort, but fur just doesn't work with Sonic. Besides, what kind of sense does that make? You can't have fur on quills.

Well at least they can't get busted for having a model that looks like it was stolen from SEGA.

I've mostly liked what they've done with Robotnik's voice in the games from Sonic Adventure onward. I don't really like the SatAM Robotnik voice anymore. y sew srs?

Even though this isn't at all in the direction I like Sonic to go, I can't help but be a bit more amused and charmed with each new bit of promotional material they release. It may end up corny and terrible but by god it's what they want to do and by god they're going for it.

That voice is way too damn deep for Eggman. Considering I couldn't make it halfway through this guy's Mega Man fan flick, can't say I'm looking forward to this one very much.

Hmm.

I'd love to see a more sinister take on Eggman/Robotnik, but it needs to be balanced out with an equal amount of humor. This version of the character looks too cold and serious. Which is pretty funny considering he's wearing the ridiculously goofy outfit from the old-school games.

Mercifully, this one is supposed to be only 15 minutes long. In the time it takes to make it halfway through Mega Man, you could watch this one three times!

I can't possibly be the only one to like this interpretation of Robotnik, can I? I'd quite like to see a gritty rebooted Sonic done with a bit of effort.

We could do with a few different interpretations really. Sonic used to have plenty, when he was at his peak no less. On top of that, most people took Robotnik seriously up until the early 00's - it's funny reading the old gaming magazines' impression of him in contrast to today. I don't think the more cruel, heartless Dr. Robotnik has ever left the public imagination. And overall, after so many swings and misses from Sega, I'd be really interested to see some inspired people do something better with these characters.

That said, I'm not really feeling this movie... partly from the live action, feels weird man.

So hey, apparently a new trailer was just put on YouTube.

So...I guess it doesn't look too terribly bad. Here's hoping Disney doesn't notice the TRON:Legacy music used in the trailer!

I'm surprised there's no hissy-fit over 90's Sonic saying a "eggman."
