Incredibly mundane technical questions

Post by Green Gibbon! »

#1) How do I switch off Google's search suggestions? There used to be an option for it, but ever since Instant was introduced, the option seems to have disappeared (even when using "classic" mode). I much prefer it when it simply opens up a list of my own past searches. I don't really care what the rest of the world is searching for and indeed in some cases I've found I'd rather not have known.

#2) Is there a way to use a keyboard button to toggle between English input and Japanese input? The Japanese computers I use at work have a very convenient toggle button, but on my American laptop, the only way I know of to switch is to actually use the language bar which is a pain in the ass and disrupts my work flow.

I realize this is an incredibly dull thread, so to compensate for any time wasted clicking on it, here's some MSX porn.

And some Japanese chick with a machinegun.

And some tit pudding.

It was not actually that good.

I use alt-shift (seen at the #2 link). As far as I know you still have to use the mouse to switch what setting (Hiragana, full width alphanumeric, etc) you're on from there, but at least with Windows 7 (I seem to recall XP did not do this) if you use the hotkey to switch, it should remember what setting you had. (Not that switching is all that important, it seems like you can get everything else via Hiragana and the space bar anyway, right?)

When are you going to tell us what your work is?

Was that sitting out in a regular ol' bakery, like where ankle-biters can see it?

I can see it's in your kitchen, but it still begs the question.

I didn't buy it myself, it was given to me. But I've seen them in souvenir shops. It's not like it's hardcore porn or anything.

But you can find porn (both real and illustrated) lined up right alongside regular magazines at any convenience store. It seems many grown men in this country are not the least bit ashamed of reading manga porn right out in public.

This is true, and pretty gross in practice. You'll just be on a train and some pervy guy will be ogling a girlie mag without paying any attention to the full grown woman next to him trying to contain her disgust. Which she has to do, because it's Japan. Ugh.

You're an American. Living in Japan. Case fucking closed.

THIS IS CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE

What's the point of viewing porn out in public, anyway? It's not like you can do anything about it.

I dunno, some of those guys pull faces like they're getting a serious kick out of it. It's like they just got a game and are reading the manual on the way home because they just can't wait to play it. Except you see them in the morning while going to work.

We used to have people jerking in the bathrooms at Barnes & Ignoble a lot. It was a pretty regular thing. We had a shelf in the back room for "bathroom shrink", which were books or magazines (typically from the sex or art sections) that were found lying in the bathroom. One guy who was confronted about it by the manager insisted he did it because his wife wouldn't let him do it at home, which is entirely plausible. I used to know a guy who always had to go somewhere else when he needed to take care of his business because his wife would not let him do it at home.

In the case of Japanese businessmen, however, it's entirely possible that he's too tired to think about porn when he gets home after his 13 hour work days. In the morning on the train to work is the only time he's got the energy or time to enjoy tits.

Maybe he should have been at home, fucking his wife.

On a vaguely related note, I still can't understand people that will take a shit in a supermarket changing room, rather than use a fucking toilet like a human. There's no paper in there!
