20th Anniversary Game

Post by K2J »

Spanish-language leaks say it's called "Sonic Anniversary". It promises to use levels from the history of the franchise... up to SA2. "Hey everyone! Sonic's been around 20 years! But could you forget about those last 10? Please?"

I predict older levels slapped onto the Unleashed engine. Some 3D areas in the 2D, some 2D in the 3D. An earlier post says it's not a compilation, but who knows.

Oh, and there's a new Mario & Sonic game. Probably Olympics again.

Sigh.

Please don't start with this until somebody, anybody more credible looks into it.

That sounds pretty lame if it is true but at the same time I wouldn't blame them. There have been 2 videos of fan remakes of classic games recently that provoked a "OMG Sega should be doing this rather than Sonic 4" type reaction so if they have decided to go route now then fair play to them.

At least we can probably pretend this game is good. It looks like other fun games, so this is fun too !!!

Also is not there a Mario Anniversary remake collection coming soon?

The source TSSZ cited, talking in English about the conversation with Sega of Spain. I know that's not much more credible, but it's something.

It's a re-release/port of Mario All-Stars (from the SNES) on the Wii. I don't think it's been announced for America yet, just Japan and Europe as far as I'm aware.

If this is true, sega needs to seriously consider slowing the fuck down. Three sonic games a year is not strengthening any brand name.

What the fuck is the point of that? I mean, I enjoy a healthy dose of classic Mario as much as the next guy, but why is Nintendo re-releasing a re-release? On a game disc, no less? I won't deny that the box and the audio CD seem kind of cool, but they could have easily just ported the SNES collection to the Virtual Console. Better yet, they could have released this as a DS game so that the ports of the original games on the Virtual Console wouldn't become so irrelevant. If they really wanted to make the collection worthwhile, they could have at least included a few more games. It's not like a Wii disc couldn't hold every major Mario game up to Sunshine, so there's plenty to pick from. At least have World in it - later versions of All-Stars did, and that was over a decade ago!

I'd expect this from SEGA.

Seeing that this is supposedly a "limited-time" game release, it's probably to appeal to collectors or anybody who owns a Wii but don't have it connected to the internet or are clueless about VC(a lot of people). It's also a budget release seeing SMW and up aren't included.
I'd expect this from SEGA.
You forgot that this the same company that released vanilla NES games for the GBA at $20-$25 a pop.

No Super Mario World? It is going to be worse than the version from 17 years ago or so?

That is SLIGHTLY autistic. Nice box, though.

Also lol at Sonic All-Stars.

Who cares? They'll just exile the titles that don't over well.

Or they could always try making a stronger effort but what ever.

It's too bad you don't like unleashed/colors styled gameplay because clearly it is the future.

But to be fair, I think everyone expected them not to just use the Hedgehog Engine once. They tried real hard to make that and no one else used it. I think they expected it to be like the Unreal Engine in popularity.

Did Sega actually offer it up to other developers?

They said they would, but nothing has come of it. The engine's project director (Hashimoto) has also fled to Square-Enix.

Maybe that is why their latest Final Fantasy game is averaging in the 4/10s.

Hiring Sonic Team members, what fools!

¡Ay Caramba!

Most weird thing, Sonic and the secret Rings sold well:

Sonic the Hedgehog for Mobile phones (8 million) but doesnt count cause is cheap!
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (6 million)
Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (4 million)
Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast (2.5 million)
Sonic the Hedgehog CD for the Sega CD, Sega Mega CD (1.5 million)
Sonic & Knuckles for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (1.24 million in US)
Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii (1.2 million)
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (1.02 million in US)

Thanks Wikipedia!

Internet sales records are essentially always wrong.

As for Secret Rings, it was an earlier Wii game and could easily tap the market since it was new. With games like Mario Galaxy 2 out now, not so much.
