Capcom exec: Well, Street FIghter IV is done, and we've canned that one game everyone liked. What else can we do to annoy people?

Board member: Well...what about that Marvel VS Capcom 3 game? We could take all the stuff we were going to release as DLC and make a new game out of it.

Exec: ...BRILLIANT!

All fine additions from the Marvel side, including the customary wacky character. But why no villains? Would Doc Ock, Green Goblin or Venom be asking too much?

Apparently Capcom claims that Venom "would be too difficult to render".

Is Capcom going through a hard time financially or something?

Seems to me they are going down the Saturn-era Sega path. You know, losing important devs (Kamiya, Mikami, Inafune...), canning company's mascot games, cheapening the fuck out of existing IPs and generally being all-around assholes.

Good thing I never bought Marvel vs. Capcom 3 the first time around then. Despite all the shit that's happened with Capcom recently, I do want to eventually get this game.

It's so obvious they held back content from the original so they could release this edition. That was a big complaint when MvC3 first came out. MvC2 had more characters and levels and alternative costumes. We're finally getting that at least.

They should've released this new content as DLC for at a much lower price. $5 per character is too much! If they released the 12 new characters on DLC for $5 each (plus the 2 DLC charas they already have) it would've been $70 for the full roster! Then there's the alternative costumes and extra levels they'd charge more for.

$40 for the package is a steal in comparison, but it's still far too much for what's pretty much an expansion to a game that's been out less than a year.

I'm just happy that Firebrand/Red Arremer is a fighter. I wonder if they'll base him off his GnG/Gargoyle's Quest or his Demon's Crest incarnation.

Derp, didn't realize there were screenshots of him.

DC Red Arremer makes sense, I guess; can't have too many diminutive characters.

Capcom is blaming a lack of fan interest in the cancellation of Rockman Dash 3 and blaming the earthquake on the release of Ultimate MvC3 rather than DLC. I get the feeling there's some bad stuff going on behind-the-scenes at Capcom these days!

I thought the earthquake might have been something to do with it. But I wouldn't be too quick to rule out internal strife or corporate greed, either.

During the PSN outage they complained of the revenue it cost them. I'd heard they said they'd be cutting out some projects they planned as a result.
During the outage, Capcom vice president Christian Svensson blasted the service: “As an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.”

I've just realised that next to X-Men, Dr Strange has more representation than any other Marvel series. Weird!
