Portal 2 IS a big game. Portal was such a huge surprising success that it stopped being a side project.
But would you also say L4D 2 is a big game? I thought both the first and the sequel were small games worth 20-30 dollars, just like Portal.
Buh? I don't think you can judge Portal's gameplay time and replayability just yet, considering all we know is the plot and antagonist.
A big game, I think, is anything that has more than 10 hours of gameplay in it. It's subjective, but still.
That being said, you're correct about L4D and L4D2 feeling like budget titles rather than stand-alone titles, and that both of them have a dearth of content for the price Vavle is asking.
I've played way more than 10 hours on Portal and L4D, I'm sure. Portal has lot of replayability (Challenge rooms, Commentary notes, User content, the last update). I remember I beat it at least 4 times the week I bought it. Never gets old for me.
And they said on an interview. They're treating Portal 2 as their next big game. Plus there's co-op.
Well that does sound better than poorly made extra puzzle maps.
But I am still unsure of how they are going to sell. Will it be reasonably priced like on Steam right now and on XBox Live (15 dollars or so) ? Or will they just go nuts with hype and stick it at $59.99 like Left4Dead?
Unless they go for a cheaper price (15 - 30) or do a collection, I cannot see myself spending so much on a Portal sequel. It is just not that good.
I don't really like her redesign. I mean, I don't HATE it. It's just that I liked everything in her original design except the tacky knee springs, but the new one looks like she stepped out of the world's most boring iPod advert. The bright orange Aperture jumpsuit was the only spark of colour in the original Portal and helped it to stick out from the environments. The new one seems a lot less visually interesting and looks more like a wetsuit, perhaps because the skin tone is a lot paler this time around and blends in with the clothes. Maybe I'm just bitter because the knee springs are back.
Also, I don't get why people find Chell ugly. She can only be considered "Hollywood ugly" at worst.
That redesign is kinda ugly, but if you actually get to leave the lab like they've suggested (confirmed?), I guess the white would contrast with the colors outside like you mentioned the her orange jumpsuit did with the lab?
Still, they could have used a white lab coat or something instead of this.
