Calligraphy Dog on your DS.

Okami is continuing. With Clover gone, I can't say I'm too excited about this.

Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
YEAH, THE DS HASN'T BEEN GETTING AS MANY GOOD GAMES RECENTLY AS IT HAD WAY BACK WHEN. IT'S KIND OF SUFFERING FROM THE SAME PROBLEM THE WII IS - OVERSATURATED WITH MEDIOCRE TITLES, AND NOT ENOUGH NEW, ORIGINAL, YET VERY GOOD ONES. NOT THAT THE PSP, ITS IMMEDIATE RIVAL, IS REALLY FARING MUCH BETTER. OR ANY OTHER CONSOLE, REALLY.
ACTUALLY, THIS SOUNDS KIND OF FUN. THE DS COULD USE A DECENT ZELDA CLONE. AS LONG AS IT'S BETTER THAN PHANTOM HOURGLASS... *SHUDDER*
REMIND ME, WHY ARE WE TALKING IN ALL CAPS AGAIN?

Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
Link's Awakening was a downsized and downgraded Link to the Past, and it ended up being my all-time favorite of the series. Come to think of it, it too was developed by a completely different team. And if Okami needed anything it was to be more stream-lined.
Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
The protagonist's name is... yeah. But hey, it's probably the most adorable thing I've seen in a while.
Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
The Wiki article says the same thing, for what it's worth. It also says that one of Chibi's human allies is the son of Susano and Kushi, despite the fact the game's set only three months after the original. I dunno, those wacky gods and their time-bending antics.
Anyway, I am very excited for this. But then, I did spend about forty quid importing the first game's soundtrack from Japan...
(Also, holy crap, the forum hasn't decided to randomly throw me off as soon as I try to do anything. This must be my first post in what, three years? More?)

Well... Okami is one of the few Wii games I really like, but... I am still saving my money for Chronno trigger DS...

Wow, it reminds me so much of Robot Heroes Ravage (both G1 and ROTF flavors)...or at least Shattered Glass Ravage.Blount wrote:The protagonist's name is... yeah. But hey, it's probably the most adorable thing I've seen in a while.

Gameplay
Certainly one of the best-looking DS games, but the 3-rd person perspective has a tendency not translate well to the system (see: Super Mario 64 DS).

Super Mario 64 DS was just fine, whatchu talkin' 'bout Willis
Sure, the digital controls were less than perfect, but the addition of Ocarina of Time's "move the camera behind you" button to the L-trigger made the camera just fine. I actually have more trouble playing the original game (despite the otherwise superior control), because the camera is so ass without Ocarina's button.

Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
My problem is with the controls, though. Takes a day-and-a-half to position your jumps just right, whereas it's much quicker with a joystick. Hopefully Chibi has a decent hang-time with generous mid-air control.
Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
64DS's touch control designers apparently hate right handed people (D-pad for face button actions? really?) so I sucked it up and beat it all the way through with buttons only. It's clunky and weird, but not all that difficult. The camera's way better on N64 though, adjusting it in set bursts is mostly all you need.

AHHHH WHAT THE FUCK
Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
Now only Babyfurs will want to play the game.
Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
No diapers in sight though.
... Yet.
... Yet.
Re: Calligraphy Dog on your DS.
It looks like the camera is tighter in this so it shouldn't be as much of a problem.
