Valkyria Chronicles sequel announced...

Post by Ngangbius »

...for the PSP.

The art and setting seems pretty different from the first, but at least I'll be able to play it, assuming this comes to America.

As a huge valkyria chronicles fan, I don't know how I feel about this. I know PS3 is not selling well, but does the sequel really have to be on PSP.

There are comments that this was supposed to be a gaiden of some sort (after all it does feature a completely different "feel" from the original) and was renamed as a sequel in order for people who played the first one to be more inclined into buying this one too.

And it's coupled with the poor American sales (not that it sold particularly well over at Japan or Europe, but I think it certainly fell flat over here), so either they ported it to the 360 and advertised it a bit more in America and perhaps Europe, or they developed a cheaper title with more selling potential over at Japan thanks to the PSP market adoption, which is higher than that of the PS3 and the 360.

... Either that or a DS/ Wii title. *shivers*

I don't see how the bolded is worthy of a shiver considering that this is a PSP title.

Assuming that this will be very successful and would hypothetically lead the series as a PSP exclusive, I wonder what would they plan to do with the CANVAS Engine.

While I concur that anything above a 4.3" screen is better than a 4.3" screen, it would still be quite below the PS3 standard and would have to be controlled with that stupid wand, but oh well... on second thought, that would still be better than that PSP's analog nub, wouldn't it?

On the CANVAS Engine... I wouldn't necessarily assume they will turn this into a PSP exclusive franchise yet, so maybe there is a chance that they'll release a true, proper sequel some two or three years down the line.

If the PSP version sales out perform the PS3 version sales (and with the userbase, that's a given), the series is never going to leave it.

The character design is a step up, at least. (I still don't like it.)

You are the first person I've encountered that said that that these character designs are better than the first game. It seems that a large (or loud)majority of people think it is a significant step down. The rest are indifferent.

Maybe not the design per se. Just the style. But it's like comparing brown poo to green poo.

The change in art style and system wouldn't bother me so much if it weren't for the fact that this game is being released this fall. The first game apparently didn't do so hot in Japan either, so my guess is they're trying to bank on this while the anime is still fresh in everyone's mind.

*shrugs* I don't have a PS3, so this'd be a good way to let me check the series out.

Hopefully there's a demo on the PSN...

I'm currently attempting to finish the original (the battles just take too damn long), and I have to say that I love the game's way over-the-top-in-depth-ness. I hope for the PSP version they continue the trend of having a plethora of unique characters, each with their own perks.

I still haven't finished the PS3 VC (I really need to play the last two battlefields someday...) but the game was excellent. Since judging by the screenshots it remains the same (except for that Morale thing in the top-left corner), I look forward to it and the only thing I hope for is that they have a better story this time, and better main characters. A lot of the recruit-able ones in the original game often eclipsed the overall weak main cast in terms of being interesting and charming. :/

I lost interest I think about halfway through the first one - I don't remember what battle I was on, I think it was a canyon with railcarts or something. Okay game (at least by modern day Sega standards), but not all that and a bag of Cheetos. I think the inspididititidididityity of the story was my main turn off.

That, and the can-opener chins.

Well, there seem to be buttons for each of those yellow stripe things on his jacket, and two of them are conveniently on his nipples, so I dunno.

Pretty sure that--like Robotnik--that is a Sgt. Pepper reference.

Yes, it certainly has nothing to do with a standard red coat uniform.

Espeically not when you consider what the game is about.

The hairdo, 'stache, and sunglasses are certainly standard issue and not at all a Beatles reference. How silly of me.

They have different hair, a different style of mustache, and are not wearing sun glasses...
