Apparently I am the only one on this forum who owns in iPod touch. Sonic the hedgehog was ported to the device over a week ago, and is as of now the fourth best selling paid application.

The use of on-screen buttons makes the game loose and difficult to play, but the main drawbacks are Apple's fault and not Sega's for once. Of course as a pathetic fan had to buy impulsively anyway...

What was it released on prior? I thought it was already on some Apple thing.

It seems this version is emulated, and emulated badly.

I'm surprised it wouldn't be well emulated, I was very impressed with the iPod version (not so much with the control method), it seemed right on the money. Is there no backwards compatibility there?

I guess they're too different. The iPod version was ported, not emulated, as far as I know. The BGM was fully recorded (10 minutes each, no looping), at least.
