No, Sora's original conception was as an anthro Lion so he'd fit in better with Donald and Goofy and play into the "King" motif, even prior to the Lion King designs.

That looks less like a chainsaw and more like a pizza cutter.

I almost wish it was kept that way. At least it sounds a little more Disney-esque than what they finally went with.
