How the hell can a voice actor's voice acting infringe on the copyrights of another character he himself voiced? I mean, if Eggman was Pete, then there'd be a case... but just happening to have Jim Cummings voice both characters can't possibly qualify.

I'm no copyright attorny, and was kind of expecting this kind of response. But this is Disney we're talking about here--The same conglomerate that said "fuck you" to Public Domain laws.

I any case, it was likely a Better Safe Than Sorry tactic by the AOSTH's producers.

Not really, Jim Cummings uses that voice all the time. Most likely he just couldn't lend his voice to both Sonic cartoons (kind of a busy guy), so he stuck with the less demanding network-produced SatAM. Either way I'm glad it happened; Long John Baldry as Robotnik is just amazing.
