It would have been great without those Act 2 minigames and the fact that you need to beat it EIGHT TIMES with characters that play almost exactly the same.
Oh, and some decent music would have been nice. And the graphics, while brilliant, were somehow less charming than that of Rivals 1.

There isn't a 2.0 version in the game. At first I thought they were continuing the numbering from Chaotix (as Metal Sonic was rebuilt in the 32X title).
However, Metal Sonic 3.0 is actually a creation of Eggman-Nega, which is completely baffling, as Blaze is Sonic's counterpart, so shouldn't Nega have created a Metal Blaze?

It all makes sense when you add in the Flames of Disaster. And a bit of Nocturnus Clan and Pri Ma Djinn, if that's your fancy.

Oh.. oops! Although, in my post I was referring to the story: Version 3.0 appears in the story and is named as such, but 2.0 isn't referenced at all.
Judging from the link Shadowhog posted, v2 appears to be halfway model between the original and v3, so perhaps we are supposed to assume there is some off-screen back-story to the upgrades.

Sega has confirmed that there is only one Eggman-Nega. Although the whole Eggman-Nega story is so messed up that it's pointless to expect anything to make sense.
