Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
Has anybody here actually played SegaSonic arcade?
Hamley's in London had one in its basement years ago (I mean I was probably about 8 years old) and I spent one of the most joyous hours of my life with that thing. I wish I knew what'd happened to it (probably long since scrap by now, knowing London arcades...)

I did, but my coinage was short (I was in London at the time and didn't think I'd need to transfer too much currency over), so I didn't get far.

I had a go at Segaworld Trocadero about 12 years back. The trackball pinched the skin on my palm so I played Athlete Kings instead. Fuck SegaSonic Arcade.

Yeah, it did that to me, too. Only I took it like a MAN.

Sure, everything looks better in retrospect.

Athlete Kings and Winter Heat were great! It's weird (but most likely for the best) that the series ended there and didn't become a staple in the Sega line-up.

Chaotix had a 16 bit port for the Genesis, but only in Brazil...

Now that you mention it...I have the urge to look that up, I remember hearing about that.

Chaotix was available through GameTap, if memory serves. Not sure if they are around anymore.

This was not hard to look up.

I remember seeing that. And it was only shortly after Gems was released that it was added. Un-freaking-believable.
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
I've always was under the impression that it couldn't properly be emulated or ported to another platform simply because the source code may have been lost or inoperable on today. This would suggest the only way of porting it would be to re-write it. If I'm not mistaking I believe I read some where (and this is just memory serving) Sega said they didn't know where Sonic 2's source was and may explain that God awful Sonic Genesis.

Sega blows at archiving their own games. The good ones, at least.

Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
They've ported Sonic 1 to about 8 different systems, so even lacking the original code they had plenty of other versions to reference. I mean, it runs better on cell phones.
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
They have the source code. Proof lies in Sonic 1 Mobile, which actually has leftover data that was axed from the Genesis ROM entirely.
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
You mean the time one of the guys who did the porting actually posted on Sonic Retro?
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
I don't know for sure which one it was but I was very impressed when a friend showed me the one that runs on the iPod. Didn't like using that wheel-thing for the controls, but the port seemed very accurate.

Isn't the GBA's CPU too slow for Mega Drive emulation?

Yeah, but Stealth says that's no excuse.Green Gibbon! wrote:Isn't the GBA's CPU too slow for Mega Drive emulation?

I'm not at all surprised that someone was able to pull this off, but how did he do the music? I wouldn't think the GBA could emulate that?
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
And can you play this on an actual Gameboy?
Re: Seriously, why wasn't SegaSonic on Gems Collection?
His Youtube descriptions mention something about an "AAS sound library". So basically, he was probably toying with the occult.G.Silver wrote:I'm not at all surprised that someone was able to pull this off, but how did he do the music? I wouldn't think the GBA could emulate that?
