My understanding is that Ubisoft doesn't want to lose Ancel (one of gaming's few auteur figures), so they have kept him placated by keeping BG&E 2 in somewhat active preproduction since they canned Rayman 4 for Raving Rabbids. The story goes that, after a couple years of this preproduction, they weren't happy they could realize their vision on current gen hardware, so they put it on hold to make Rayman stuff in the meantime. But they will they go back to it now? Presumably. But it'll be back to preproduction with a small crew again. Whether Ubisoft will ever allow it to go BEYOND that is anyone's guess, but they can only stall the guy for so long!
