Wikipedia's Sonic section

Post by CE »

I was browsing wikipedia today to waste some time, and I stumbled upon a Sonic the Hedgehog section. The amount of information there is simply amazing. I was definately not expecting any content on such obscure stuff as say, Sonic Underground.

So I ended up spending half an hour cleaning up some formating and adding bits and pieces of info. If enough people did this, we could remove any need for GG to spend his time adding content to Green Hill Zone, leaving more time for... other things.

I'm a major Wikipedia fan too... I never even thought to look at a Sonic section, though. Nifty. I'm going to clean up some of their music pages sometime this summer.

Check the external links at the foot of the page. I think it's likely they got a hefty portion of their section from our very own GHZ. We all know, however, that GG! and the crew pull it off with much more style.

And cursing. *thumbs up*

Actually, I added the GHZ link on the bottom.

I only stumbled across it a couple of times while Googling my own name, but apparently there was this small debate a while back as to whether Wikipedia should refer to the Genesis as that or as Mega Drive. The guy in charge of the game section cited the GHZ (and actually used my name) as a source for his decision (because I generally refer to it as the "Mega Drive"), then this other guy who I guess was over his head said something along the lines of: "It doesn't matter what Jared Matte's opinion on this is" and I guess vetoed the decision to use MD over Genny.

I just thought it was kind of cool to have my name tossed around by total strangers. That happens sometimes and then I do something utterly stupid and they realize what a fool I actually am. It happens alot, I don't think anyone's ever respected me for more than a couple of months.

I used to respect Gibs a lot. Then he disagreed with me about something, and then there were a few other things, and basically since then I've hated him with the burning intensity of a thousand suns. You other guys all agree with everything I ever say, right?

If I recall correctly, it really is 140 million. It's just it doesn't store them conventionally - there are basically "sections" of each special stage and depending on which code you enter depends on how the sections are arranged.

That means it would be better to say "140 million combinations". Some math wiz can use that to figure out just how many seperate "sections" there are available for combination, I'm sure.

I completed all 140 million stages once. You don't get anything.

I suspect it's just a calculation based on the various possible combinations.

A crazy thought has been going through my mind to manually see how many stages there are... >>;;

Someone stop me before I'm at the point of no return... <<;;

My friend Tony and his sister, who owned basically three Mega Drive games for several years, played about 1600 Blue Sphere stages. I never liked them that much. I tried to get them out of the way in Angel Island and Mushroom Hill.

I thought they were pretty cool, actually, but the Saturn version of Sonic 3D still has the most fucking amazing special stage ever.

Where's that webpage with the Blue Sphere map, stage number and password generator?

Yeah, I loved the blue spheres Special Stages. I'd say they're the most clever Special Stages to date.
