Favorite alternative Sonic media form.

Post by Xigz »

Sonic started off as a video game, and has had many spin-offs such as comic books, multiple TV shows, a movie, novels, and others.

What I ask you is, what do you think was the best, and most well done.

I'd have to go with the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. I believe it was the first of the spin-offs (I could be wrong) and I felt that it was a rather well done anime. Much better than Sonic X. The characters where mostly from the games, with the exception of three (One being very minor), and felt as if I was watching the games be told out in a story, not something cliche and totally different like a lot of the others did.

I'm gonna go with the Sonic OVA also as it came close to matching the spirit of the games. Though I guess you could almost say the same thing with AoStH and Sonic X, but the OAV did it much better.

Agreed, and I also add I love it for Knuckles' hat.

I liked Sonic X mainly for the fact that it's the cartoon that packed in the most references to the actual games, even going so far as to do adaptations of both Sonic Adventure games.

I'd have liked it more if the localization hadn't sucked more than a Dyson.

Therefore, my favorite alternate Sonic media will have to be the Sonic OVA movie.

I'm biased & independent, therefore I go for the OVA (or OAV, whatever).

But I felt that, for a Japanese animation, it was ironically very cliché. Other than that, the best official derived product as of now.

STC, all the way.

Though if someone were to make a big-budget, hand-drawn, cinema-aimed movie...

Yeah, Sonic the Comic edges out the OVA for me. Not by much though.

But I did enjoy bits and pieces of Sonic X.

I enjoyed the comic for some time, but it got boring after a while. A bit to much love, also. And the art looked different every other comic.

But I loved how it kept you coming back, for the most part.

Truthfully, I like bits and pieces of everything.

Except probably Sonic Underground. Even I have limits.

Though when it comes to favorite... I suppose the OVA and STC.

I think that's considered heresy in some corners of the fandom.

I think my current favorite is probably Sonic and the Search for Love. Sega should really let this guy write the plots to the games.

With some Sonic Jam on the side?

Anyway, concurrence with the OVA, though Sonic X had its moments. If it counts, I also enjoyed the 'Virtual Sonic' soundtrack.

Hmmm.

Games, first and foremost. I had a huge thing for SatAM back when I was a youngling. (mainly for the completely awesome intro sequence, I sometimes would lose interest after a few minutes after that, since the actual show was never as cool) AoSTH was the most enjoyable, but I loathed the animation quality, and Robotnik's design. And I would constantly get angry at the vomit-colored sky. I remember being real frustrated and going "Is it SO HARD to just color the sky BLUE?"

I liked the Archie comic for a brief while, but then it got all dramatic once it got to issue 36, and focused on Sally, King Acorn, and the SatAM exclusive characters, with Sonic seeming really out of place.

The OVA was nice, for the music, the little references to the Genesis games (Green Hill-like flowers, Tornado 1) but was ultimately boring, and Sonic himself looked kinda goofy, with his spikes being so short. I liked the Owl though, and there was a few funny moments.. sigh, I wish I hadn't sold my DVD of it. =(

I really wanted to like Sonic X. The dub did about one thing right. The intro. That was it. Everything else was just a mess. I tried to ignore the voices and just enjoy the show. But when characters like Cream or Ella come onscreen, My hand goes right for the mute button. Also, the show is FULL OF PUNS. And the annoying announcer drives me nuts in his quick episode re-caps.
Sonic X wrote:Last time on Sonic X, Chaos swallowed the emerald, and turned into a MAMMOTH MONSTER a TIDALWAVE OF TERROR struck the city. But SUPER SONIC SOCKED it to him!

Notice how every word starts with the same letter. Even characters in the show do it from time-to-time!
Dr Eggman wrote: Why does that HEINOUS HEDGEHOG ruin everything?
The original, un-dubbed show isn't much better though. The Tornado is now Tornado-X, humans are the focus of every story and the animation quality GREATLY declines as the series progresses.

I've liked a lot of Sonic media forms, but I guess the only Sonic media form that i've ever liked with absolutely no beefs whatsoever has been the games. No focus on humans, no furries, gorgeous enviroments abound, great music, good voices, and they're fun to play.

I guess AoSTH takes 2nd place to the games for me.

In response to that picture: MY EYES.

Okay, let's get the important stuff out of the way first: me being disturbed for reading that damned link Plorpus III posted...then Delphine comes in with the Yaoi. *shivers* I don't think my soul will be clean again...EVER!!

Now for the topic at hand...I'd say...well, hell. I pretty much withdrawn myself so far from any of the alt. media forms that I decided to make my own alt. media out of the franchise. But since it's all just to entertain my bored, wandering mind, it doesn't count here.

Bah, let's just say Sonic X (the comic) is my current pic and let it be over with.

Oh, this reminded me, has anyone seen those mangas at the Museum? The second one looks, like, really crappy, but maybe the first is any good?

Also, I forgot about that music vid of m-flo, pretty cool and weird stuff.

EDIT: Forget it, here is The Winner.
