After months and months of no news whatsoever. http://www.smashbros.com/index.html Opens in two days.

Just for giggles, the most popular rumor going around I've heard is this:
Roy will be swapped out for Ike, Pichu and Ice Climbers will be combined into Plusle and Minun, Young Link will be cel shaded, and Lil Mac, Lucario, Balloon Fighter, Toad, Tingle, Ridley, Krystal, Flint from Mother 3, Lip from Panel de Pon, Captain Olimar, and Andy from Advance Wars will be the new characters. Oh, and the other clone characters will all return with new movesets. Mr Game and Watch gets the boot, and no Sonic except maybe as a pay download.

All of which actually seems plausible on several levels.

So, we're probably still getting one other non-Nintendo character. If it's not Sonic, who do you want in his place?

I wonder how long 2 days is in (Japan time).

Would they really put a Mother 3 character in a Smash Bros game when the series is so incredibly popular in regions where the game hasn't been released? And I don't know about the Roy swap. I also don't see Sonic in the cards however they're dealt. The cel-shaded Link thing is so believable that I'd swear I'd seen footage of it somewhere in the back of my mind, though.

I want Little Mac, Olimar, Lucario, and Dr. Mario swapped out for a decent character. There's not a lot you can do to fix him.

Probably means in 2 more midnights Japan time, which would be 10 AM Monday board time.

12PM EST Monday, by my count. At which point I'll be on my way to an interview with some UPS guys for employment, so I'll probably miss the great hooplah that follows... Oh well.

Or you could... you know, check it out afterwards.

Damnit, I hope not. He's one of the most important "characters" in Nintendo history.

If GW does get kicked out, I hope they at least have the heart to leave his stage in the game.

Maybe, but the flurry of new posts would be coming in earlier. I'd be giving my two cents well after the fact. Not a <i>hardship</i>, really, just sayin'.

What I think they should do about returning characters:

Keep at least one representative from each game series (that means Ice Climbers and Mr. Game and Watch get higher priority) and get rid of some clone characters (combine Marth and Roy into a hybrid character into Marth or some other Fire Emblem character). Other characters from series that are already represented (like Ganon or Mewtwo) get lower priority since someone else will inevitably represent the game series they're in (like Link and Pikachu).

And something tells me most of the "clone" characters will be restricted to downloads- together with the old stages.

And christ, Sonic had better be in this. Folks didn't beg for five or six years so we could see Mario and Sonic in the Olympics.

Baloon Fighter would be sweet.

If we should have one other third party character that is not Sonic, then I'd say they should get the Elevator Action guy.

After Snake, I think Pacman is the most likely third-party addition. Pacman, and then Megaman.

(I'm basing this on which companies I think are most likely to be willing to farm out their mascots to Nintendo cheap, not on which characters are the most popular or in demand.)

Yeah, I thought Megaman too but I don't even remember the last time Megaman was in a Nintendo console.

Also, Peach wears boyshort-type underwear. (Best way to check is with that "Can-Can Kick" thing she uses.) Zelda has some sort of wierd legging on that covers her panties. ;__;
