The Free Comic Book Day Sonic issue was a great read, but I still say that Sonic X issues 10 and 11 are the greatest Sonic comic issues in the history of forever.

Eggman uses the Master Emerald to power a virtual reality world and traps Sonic and his friends inside. The kicker is, the world is an exact replica of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Genesis. The zones. Badniks. Everything.
Sonic X is being shown in reruns right now. The Sonic X comic is selling just as well as the original comic, so I think it's safe to say it'll be around for quite a while.
I could have done without all the 4th wall-breaking stuff (or whatever wall it is when a comic character finds himself in a video game and he doesn't understand what's going on even though he was a video game character in the first place), with all the commentary when the levels transition or he picks up a ring or whatever, like it was done for the reader's benefit because we don't know what's going on or something.
The majority of Sonic fans this day and age never played any of the original games anyway. They probobly had no idea what the hell was going on, and they're the targeted audiance. =p
Yeah, the whole thing fails, miserably even. As the whole Sonic franchaise goes along I just feel older and older. I'm still playing 3/K more than any other Sonic games in my shelves, simplicity works.
If it means anything, the most recent comic in the Archie-verse sees pretty much everybody dying at Eggman's hands.
Well, okay, they're "put into Egg Grapes to be used as fuel", but I guarantee that, although some people are going to be rescued (since everybody except Sonic, Tails, Knux and Amy was captured, meaning Sega mainstays like Rouge or Vector need to be freed from this fate), a lot of the extra characters won't be, so they're as good as dead. Also Knothole is pretty much all rubble, now. No more of that.
