So... five months after One Piece stopped being dubbed by 4Kids, FUNimation gets the helm of the series- and the plans include picking the series from where the last dub ended, and re-dubbing the previous episodes (eventually). Bad news is, there's still going to have some minors cuts on violence, alchool, cigarretes, and the skipped "filler" episodes probably won't be brought to television.

But that's where the uncut DVDs enter.

All this, right on time before the american release of Ultimate Adventure.

So, pick your reply:
a)YOSHAAAAA!!! :D
b)Halle the berry, FINALMENTE!!
c)キタ━━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━━ !!!!!(r)

(r)Gibbon

d) I don't especially care but have a few comments to make

From the sounds of it it seems like FUNi want to turn this into their next DBZ the situation is incredibly similar. Only partially through the show's lengthly run they bring in their own cast (I assume?), heavily alter the amount of editing for the better but still have some apparent cuts and and then, eventually, they plan to go back and do a redub of the seasons done by another cast.

It's almost frighteningly similar really...

Anyway up until now I've never really paid attention to One Piece as to be honest I was heavily put off by the art style, which I assume would have some people label me a monster but it really is a bit more unique than I'm used to. I think I'd get used to it pretty quickly if I gave it a chance though.... but for now I really don't want to pick up any other ongoing anime/manga because I have a few as it is and for once it'd be pretty cool if I could just read/watch a series all at once when it's finished...so I'll try to wait it out.

One Piece is regarded as the "new Dragonball" even in Japan, though.

I love the art and goofy characters, but the awful dub put me off the show real quick. It seems like something I could really get into, though.

I would go with YOSHAAAAA!!! :D , but I didn't see anymore than the first 4 episodes in fansub, the rest I couldn't stand because of the 4Kids adaption so I couldn't enjoy them in the least. According to a local media, it's TOEI Animation itself who's asking to censor the show's contents for pretty much unknown reasons, even in Europe.

But well, this is better than nothing.

But the important difference between this and DBZ is that now, FUNi knows what the hell they're doing. Plus they're going to keep the original BGM.

I'm fine with the filler eps not being brought stateside as they're almost uniformly awful (the last arc was okay), but the edits still irk me. It'd be nice if they were somehow able to work out a deal like they did back in the day on Cartoon Network with Gundam Wing- an edited version ran during the day, and late a night they would show it uncut, blood and swearwords still present. Granted, it was still Gundam Wing, but I thought it provided a solid way to satisfy purists/people that didn't want to feel "kiddie" and appeal to a younger demographic at the same time.

And if dubbing bugs you that much just watch the fansubs. God knows I do.

I don't think the edits are going to be anywhere near as bad as the ones suggested. The show is going to air with a TV-PG (which uncut Gundam Wing did in the US, I believe), and it will probably be edited closer to Naruto standards, with at least some blood intact and hopefully most violence and suggestive material.

I think this whole "flash of light when a punch makes contact" statement is a slight miscommunication.

Of course, I'm just happy that the show is being released in 13 episode boxsets, and hopefully will be done so straight from the beginning. Honestly, this is the only long running shounen-action show actually worth buying since, as far as I'm concerned, it's the only show that's nailed the formula down to an art.

That's so very fooooolycoooly.

I haven't paid attention to anything 4kids related, but it's nice to see One Piece is underway for something any bit better. By the way, what was the talk before about 4Kids finally being regarded as fucking idiots by the major companies? Is this another sign of their shutting down?

Last I heard they had no anime to dub "for the forseeable future".

... So they'll be releasing Gundam SEED and Zero no Tsukaima in the unforseeable future. That would rock.

If I ever decide to buy an anime again, the first anime I buy will definitely be One Piece.

Incidentally, the last anime I ever bought was Slayers. No anime series has really struck me as something I must own except One Piece. Well, except maybe Hajime no Ippo. I think those are the only two series I can think of that I will definitely own someday.

By the way, what does キタ━━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━━ !!!!! mean?

I downloaded the first fansubbed 8 episodes (there's something hugely ironic about pirating a show about pirates) and was pleasantly surprised with the mix of action, comedy, and pure WTF!?!ery.

Just beware of the East Blue's arc of fights that feel way too long for their own good. After East Blue, the fights are better paced and don't feel like they take too damn long to finish. I mean, sure, there are still some problems with the length of fights, but it never becomes as bad as it was in East Blue.

Also, One Piece art flood.

Is that giant bird in the second block down Balloon the Roc from the prototype manga? I want to see what a giant panda bird looks like. Actually I guess Ann was later split into Nami and Princess Vivi.

And WTF with the giant vulture/sheep sea monster that keeps on appearing throughout the series?
