I remember J-man getting upset about missing it last year.
That's about as interesting as it got.

A better question would be "Arrr, can ye land-lubbers tell me 'ow much o' Monkey Island be ripped off by Pirates o' tha Carribean: Dead Man's Chest?", anyway. The first movie might've had some similarities, but the second one was very much more so:

Davy Jones = LeChuck, with some Cthulhu thrown in for good measure.
Voodoo Lady.
Cannibals.
Corrupt officials. (Remember Fester Shinetop? I mean, sure, he was LeChuck in disguise, but still.)

And so on.

A pirate walks into a bar.

The bartender says to the pirate, "Do you know that you have a ship wheel down your pants?"

He says, "Arr, it's driving me crazy."

How dare Disney rip-off trademark ideas like cannibals, voodoo, and corruption in the government! Someone call the President!

Oh HELL yes. I remember that game. Admittedly I never played it (how could I, I lack a modded or Japanese Xbox, and it only came out in Japan), but any game starring the President of the USA inside a freaking mech is wortha look in my book.

A demo of the game was hidden away in an old (now) Xbox Magazine demo disc.

Completely over the top. Touchy controls, but damn satisfying.

Arrr, actually, Monkey Island 2 was pretty much based off da Pirates of the Caribbean ride, so I don't think no one can be blamed.

It's sad that any possibilities of a Monkey Island movie have disappeared like a bottle of rum in a bloody pirate's hand.

Sort of on the topic of unusual holidays, is anyone else aware of or excited for Odin Day?

I think you'll find the actual punchline is 'driving me nuts'. Or, as I once famously mis-told it, "steering me balls", which didn't have quite the same effect.

For some reason there's a cartoon depicting that joke taped up on the wall of one of the stalls of our bathrooms here in the dorm. Annoyingly, it uses something akin to Popcorn's mistelling as the punchline ("Arr, it's touching my balls"). It fails pretty hard.

Popcorn, I have been telling your version whenever the situation arises for a couple years now. It's way funnier.

I've seen the <a href="http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/0409 ... toothpaste for dinner comic, too, and wondered if you got the idea from it, but it's funny either way.

That looks EXACTLY like it. I had no idea that it came directly from an online webcomic...

I don't think they chose particularly good ones to put up, though. None seemed very funny. I assume that the comic isn't all as bad as this one?...

My favourite tpfd involves transistors and a lion. Someone posted it here a while back under the "Things that are always funny" thread.

Toothpaste for Dinner is brilliant 90% of the time.

Actually, now that I think about it, that comic is way newer than Popcorn's telling of the steering joke. Why did I ever doubt him?

1) Wait, I've told the 'steering me balls' story before?

2) That comic is eerily similar-- astoundingly eerily similar in fact-- but my faux pas originated back when I was in college sometime, which would have been 2004 at the latest. I don't know when that comic came about.

1) Yes, you did.

2) Maybe the TFD guy reads this forum? ...maybe not.
