I think this is it. After this, I mean... what else is there?

Hey, you know the Jetsons or some other futuristic cartoons that condense food items into a small pill and all you have to do is add one drop of water in order for it to expand into a delicious gourmet dinner? Yeah, that would be nice.

Meat's included and everything. All you have to do is rip open a packet, add water, and microwave it for a couple of minutes. No refrigeration, no defrosting, no nothing. When bachelors and college kids can eat as well as kings, I'm not sure what we as a species have left to achieve.

I assume kings eat Hamburger Helper. I've never been a king, so I'm not sure.

I believe Kel Mitchell said it best when, after eating an entire turkey and trying to cover it up with blended deli-sliced turkey, he said, "It looks diseased!"

I'm pretty sure they do, because one of my roommates would say exactly that whenever we ate it. "This is the food of kings". Of course, he also said that about Spaghettios.

The packaged and microwavable meat seems kind of iffy, though.

Spaghettios rock, so he's not too far off-target there. That sauce is quite possibly the best pasta sauce ever.

Spaghetti-Os were God's way of saying "Sorry about that whole Barbra Streisand thing..."

A miserable little pile of noodles and meat.

Hamburger Helper is the Kool-aid of hot meals. It's quick, tasty, and there are a vast array of flavors which are changed constantly. (Sadly, many of my favorites of old are no longer available.) All you have to do is brown some ground beef, toss in some water (and milk if you're making a cheese-flavored variety), and mix in the packets of noodles and flavor powder. Once upon a time, they included meat seasoning packets for the browning phase, but that concept was short-lived. These days, they have topping packets which you mix with milk and drizzle over the cooked meal.

I love them all, but I am partial to the pasta varieties (I add about half a can of tomato paste to give it zest). It is comfort food for anyone raised in a middle class American household during the 70's and 80's. There's also Chicken Helper and Tuna Helper... Chicken Helper is good, but I never make it myself because chicken's just a pain in the ass when you have to cook it yourself. Tuna Helper is good without the tuna because whoever decided that tuna is edible should have his license revoked.

The whole non-refridgerated microwaveable meat thing scares me.

The good people at Hamburger Helper would not release untested, unmicrowaved meat to the public without first making sure it was unbelievably delicious.

And for the record, the best pasta sauce ever was included with the limited edition Sonic brand SpaghettiOs. I still have five cans in my pantry, actually.

Thought it was obvious. Only saying it because it's a SotN reference - truth be told, I've never really cared enough about Hamburger Helper to form an opinion either way. More of an Easy Mac person, myself. Or better, just gimme one of those microwavable Ball Park franks, and I'm set.

Awesome. I've had this whole year for an internship away from school, so as a bachelor/ college student, I've eaten cereal, pop tarts, soup, peanut butter, instant rice, or spaghetti-o's almost exclusively. I don't go for the Hamburger Helper stuff right now because of the "brown some ground beef" step. But now, the possibilities are limited only by the Hamburger Helper marketing people.

Granted, those things are what I would eat if I were a king and someone would cook them for me, but I like to have the choice.

I've always made ends meet by just combining ground beef and instant noodles. Frankly, Hamburger Helper just seems too damn convenient.

Word to that. I didn't get a lot of canned meals as a kid, but that Sonic-branded Franco American can somehow snuck its way into my home. It currently inhabits my room, holding my art supplies. My favorite noodle shape is the kaiten one.

That reminds me of the old-school Sonic branded biscuits I used to take to school. I wish I kept a pack for old-times sake.

I still have a can of Sonic the Hedgehog Meatballs in redsauce sitting on my shelf. Back from 2000. I'll pay someone five bucks if they eat it and don't die!
