Childhood Heroes

Post by aso »

While I'm sure there are some exceptions, I'm presuming most of us had some sort of idols or icons that we revered as children.

Mine were actually Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was at the right age for the cartoons of both, and swiftly got into the comics of both afterwards.

I actually began to idolize Sonic a bit from what I saw on his early cartoons, as well... however, while TMNT and Batman faded away in terms of interest, Sonic remained.

And here I am now, 19 years old, and still addicted to Sonic. I'm sure that's sad by some measure of the imagination...

Anyone else?

Sonic the Hedgehog. Sad, maybe, but he literally changed my life. And is still my favorite.
Superman (always liked him better than Batman, nyah).
Wolverine. I don't care what you say, he freaking rocks.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The Animaniacs, I guess. The insane humor left an impression on me.

I can't remember any more at the moment.

The Animaniacs! While I didn't really consider them much of an icon, their cartoon was one of the best around...

The game on the Genesis wasn't too bad either. One of Konami's better titles.

TMNT as well, but I also enjoyed Ghostbusters... Also I like X-men, they always felt better to me than any DC hero... Then there is Megaman, Sonic is good and all but I think he just the best blue game hero... And finally the Transformers, Bumblebee was the best of them though...

Pinky and the Brain. Who didn't want to take over the world when they were a child? And dammit, they never gave up. *sniff*

I hated Captain Planet. He was so damn annoying. None of the jokes he ever made were funny. And I always wanted to know why the Champion of Nature itself would look like Vanilla Ice . . .

There are probably multiple, but the major one I can think of right now is Megaman. I always liked the whole stealing other people's power and using it on their comrades, seemed so evil. I hated the Animaniacs, I could never stand that show. But Captain Planet, he was awesome. If I'm ever up at 5 in the morning, which is a lot, I watch that show. The one where he fought the toxic captain planet was great.

I loved sonic the hedgehog. In fact, I loved computer games period. My only other hero was damon hill, the racing driver. I'll never forget the time when he was in the failing BAR arrows that had yet to win a race, and by some wierd feat of steering wheel skill he managed to get the thing to the front with a twenty second gap between him and veilneuve. And then three laps from the end, a 50p fuel cap fell off the engine and the car was suddenly going at half the speed, and damon and the team were robbed of one of their only victories that season. Now he's gone I don't bother with formula one; there is only so much entertainment that can be derived from watching a man with a big chin win all the time.

-Sonic the Hedgehog
(Sad, my interest in him faded in the mid to late 90's, but then it was SA2:B that actually sparked my interest in the series...spare the lynching plese...)
-Kirby
-Mario
-Snoopy (Who DOESN'T like Snoopy?)
-Animaniacs ( I even bought their "Video Game")
-R2-D2
-Power Rangers
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (That didn't last long. I was like 5 and I only liked them because my mom bought me a T-shirt.)
-The Monopoly Guy, Rich Uncle Pennybags

I was absolutely obsessed with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They were my idols. I also went through a Power Rangers and a Captain Planet phase.

Well Sonic obviously.

But other favourites included Bill and Ted (WYLD STALLIONS!!!!!!!!!), Daffy Duck (he was surly which was cool), some Simpsons characters and some musicians i only learned to appreciate. Dunno who, but probably James Iha would be one of them.

I guess mine were a bit unconventional except for Sonic, who was, for all intents and purposes, the last one.

My first major obsession was with Scooby-Doo, but for about the past 10 years I've been utterly incapable of watching it even through the lens of nostalgia. After that, I think it was Beaver Cleaver, and then probably Gilligan. At around that same time I started getting into junior mystery novels, but not the Hardy Boys or any of that, my books were the Happy Hollisters. I don't think there was any one member of the cast I viewed as an idol, not even Pete, but I was deeply infatuated with Pam. Next came Buddy Surrel from the Dick Van Dyke Show (which remains one of my all-time favorite television programs to this day), then it was Sonic and that was pretty much it.

You bunch of losers and your retarded comic book heroes and giant robots. It's no wonder I'm the coolest one here.

Scooby: "Ruh roh! Ribbon rot rerved!"

Childhood heroes? Er, lesse....

Sonic- Obvious reasons. Still remains my favorite.

Kirby-one of my fav games series of the time.

Megaman-Ditto.

Looney Tunes in general-Again, pretty obvious. Humour just left an impact on me.

Animaniacs-Ditto.

Scrooge Mcduck- Awesomest rich old dude that ever waddled.

Darkwing Duck- I AM THE TERROR THAT FLAPS IN THE NIGHT! I AM THE GUM THAT IS STUCK TO YOUR SHOE! I AM THE PERSON THAT CALLS YOU AT 3 IN THE MORNING AND BREATHES HEAVILY TO CREEP YOU OUT!! ...yeah, you know where I'm going with this right?

Spider-Man: Best. Superhero. EVER. (It's strange that I like him so much, as spiders creep the hell out of me IRL)

Batman: Can kick much ass WITHOUT any superpowers. Plus his stories have a very dectective-like flair to them, and I've always liked mystery stories.

TMNT- "Heroes in a half-shell, TURTLE POWER!"

There's probably many others I haven't mentioned, but I'm too lazy to type them up right now.

Oh, something else I forgot. I idolized pretty much everyone and everything in Star Wars when I was a kid. I still think the original three movies are great films, although their prequels aren't too good really.
