Dimps aren’t completely without merit. They were supposedly responsible for the excellent Sonic Pocket Adventure, which I’d personally rate over Sonic 1 & 2 (although, that’s a bit of unfair comparison, as the first 2 Mega Drive Sonic games were innovators for their time, whereas SPA mostly copies what went before it).
SPA was better than any Sonic Advance title, but man, it looked, played and even sounded like a freaking fangame. Almost nothing in that game was even trying to be original - every stage was seen before in Sonic 2, and every music piece was heard before in, like, any Sonic 3 & Knuckles fanmade midi collection.
(The puzzle piece collection system was really cool, tho'.)
I loved Sonic Pocket Adventure most for its 8-BIT remixes of the 16-BIT games. I still have Cosmic Casino Act 2's BGM stuck in my head. Damn, I'm surprised nobody had ripped the music in MP3 format yet or something. As for the game itself, it felt like I was playing a Genesis game on the Master System. Imagine Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Genesis version, but revamped with Master System graphics and 8-BIT music. That's what Pocket Adventure was like.

Basic gameplay is fun, it's great to run around and shoot stuff. Using weapons doesn't feel tacked on and there's a good variety to use. Controls have been tweaked enough to make playing the game actually possible (see Sonic Heroes) and the only times I've died in bottomless pits have been my own fault. Player interaction with objects and scenery adds a nice touch.
Looks pretty damn good, loads better than SA2 animation-wise and regarding environments too. Anybody who decries the visuals hasn't seen Mad Matrix, a level which actually displays genuine ingenuity (that feels weird to type) in design and execution. Voice acting ranges from excellent to tolerable (what a surprise etc). Difficulty curve is a bit all over the shop, and the missions hurt my fragile human brain, although the ones that don't involve getting millions of rings or killing 40 soldiers (a rarity, I admit) are pretty fun.
Overall, a breath of fresh air and a generally fun platformer with a passable storyline, also getting extra points for tying up every possible fan-storyline and explanation as neatly as could be done. I give it Pretty Good/73.
I've found that Shadow the Hedgehog is most fun when it sucks.
And by that I mean I mean the egg vaccuum gun. Sucking the surroundings clean of aliens, soldiers and boxes alike is oddly satisfying. The odd part is that it has nothing to do with the innuendo.

I'd like to take this opportunity to plug Rush's soundtrack:
It's really very good. Maybe it doesn't make up for the bottomless pits, but man, is it catchy in its awesomeness. I played the special stages a few times just to hear 'A New Day' again.

No, but there'd be one less thing to bitch about. There's still the camera, the glitches, the repitive and uninspired gameplay, the level design, the excessive talking during levels, the silly story, and the occasional stupid gimmick that should've remained at the drawing board.

As much as I hate to defend this Nova guy, I think he was talking more about Rush, which most of those points don't apply to but whatever alcohol ALCOHOL aoCWPEFMOWIEFMg"LL£FLWINPRHG~{~)£*0957u32q%+385 OCH AYE IT'S 2006 WOOHOOO

I've been playing Sonic Rush over the past few days or so. I think it's a great game far better than I expected(although my expectations were pretty low) but it does suffer from a few problems. The basic gameplay is great and the new gameplay mechanics work well. The graphics are pretty good and the soundtrack is excellent. Even the Special Stages are good and work well with the stylus. However, as has already been said, the big problem with this game is there's still too many bottomless pits and cheaply placed traps. It really is annoying when you miss a platform and end up falling to your death. Overall, it's still a good game and far better than the crap we've had recently but there's still a lot of room for improvement.
What is this bizarre power you have, SegaSonic?
Even when I agree with you, the way you phrase yourself instantly convinces me to disagree and then make fun of you and your opinion.
If only you could use your powers for good instead of evil.
Yeah, Eggpawns are OK for recurring enemies, but I'm sick of them appearing in every stage as a generic enemy everywhere. I want stage-specific animal robots back, dammit. No more Eggpawns and Knights in costumes.

Thats all I ever asked....or said.
Oh and Eggrobo>Eggpawns
