So apparently the new Katamari Damacy game is already out in some Target stores (the street date is 9/20, but I guess Target felt like cheating). This post has some screen shots, but the, er, most interesting one is this:

...yeah. Like I said in the thread over there, some random person on the internet making a 9/11 joke is one thing, but I'd hate to be someone who had a relative die that day and up and see that in the game.

I dunno, I think it's funny. I think more people should be horribly insensitive and basically realise that most things in some way are funny when approached with the correct mindset. Like... the holocaust, or something. :/

Maybe it's just a typo. The original Katamari Damacy was released on September 21, 2004.

That date is just read off the PS2's internal clock, so if you're playing on 9-11, that's the date that would show up.

Ah. Well still, that's no excuse for people not to panic! Someone call Jack Thompson!

Yeah. It was obvious to me as soon as I saw it.

I don't get it though. Is it actually some kind of pun? Does the 'crash' reference have any significance beyond LOL 9/11?

I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but if it's a tasteless 9/11 joke, whatever.

I'm surprised Namco had the balls to make that kind of joke especially in this day and age.

Perhaps I worded that poorly. To further my example, if you were to play the game on July 18, and your PS2's internal calender was set correctly, Ousama would be saying: "It's 7/18, today is 7/18!! The birthday of your first crash!" I don't know what he means by that.

I honestly thought that was a photoshop thing when I first saw that pic elsewhere, I didn't know it was real.

Nah, you worded it fine. I'm guessing everyone just saw the pic and replied without reading the other posts. Either that or they are retarded.

Ah. Oh. I see. By crash he must mean when you crash into something with your katamari, then? That's a lot less, uh, bad. Shitty. Whatever.

Yeah, but explain the part where he says "America must die! Kill the infidels!"

That's just a sly reference to the anime series "Fatowa!! Infide-chan."

I wish you weren't making that up right now, cause I'd totally buy it.

Pretty much. After you bump into something for the first time, the game gives you a notification that it has recorded the event to your journal. Play again a year later and it will remind you. This happens with quite a few events in the game, like the first time you collect certain objects or clear certain areas. That screenshot required someone to manipulate the PS2 clock to "time travel."

I totally think he worded it poorly. I thought he meant that if you played the game on 9/11, you got that message. Which is what the original screenshot suggested anyway.

Well, in the game you tend to crash into stuff a lot. Sometimes on purpose. So it makes sense. Someone decided to make it say 9/11 haha lol internets.
