The Battle for One Billion Pounds

Post by Popcorn »

Neil (aka Koosh Koosh) and I have a small bet on-- one billion pounds to the loser who can draw the coolest Sonic.

Here is my effort: http://lemonade.horseface.org/art/pictures/22.gif

Here is Neil's: http://lemonade.horseface.org/art/pictures/21.jpg

I trust you can all make the right choice.

They're two completely different styles so I can't really choose. Both are winners in my opinion.

Seconded. Maybe if you both drew the same style it would be comparable, but to have Popcorn draw the Adventure-series Sonic and Neil draw the earlier versions of the character, it's apples and oranges, man.

Hey, I voted! I like Neil's, but I like Popcorn's more.

Neil's art is cleaner but Pop's is more dynamic; I think Pop's captures the spirit slightly better, so that's where my money went.

How hard can it be to just vote for the one you like the fucking best?

They're both excellent. Equal, in fact.
But I liked the style Niel used better.

Yeah. If you want to compare the styles, then Neil's is infinitely better.

Infinitely.

Well the old-school Sonic did look a little chubby to some people.

I am hurt to have not been included. You know I'm good for a billion pounds! :(

I have to go with Popcorn's, even when it's something I don't necessarily like (those rounded teddy-bear ears, for instance) it feels more deliberate and intentional despite the "sloppy ink" nature of his style. The result is a much more powerful image (plus major preference points for the giant hands).

I typically prefer a more "classic" style but in Neil's case it's almost classic to a fault, it's just too chubby and too stiff. The right shoulder intrudes into his profile, which softens one of the "sharper" points in his silhouette, and the cropped-out feet lend to a weaker composition. There are some qualities on Neil's that I like better (the head spines in particular seem to have more "spring" than Popcorn's) but overall it's just not as strong.

Hard to compare such different styles, but I have to go Neil on this one.

It's kinda hard to choose, especially since one style is the newer SA version and so forth and other is purely old school. But I like Neil's smoother line art in the pic, plus the feet looks kinda weird on Popcorn's Sonic (no offense, Popcorn, your Sonic is still mighty impressive). I also tend to perfer angular style artwork over the more rounded appeal. I'd choose neither since both are unique, but if I was really forced to pick, I'd go for Neil's.

YOU'VE MADE ME REGISTER HERE JUST FOR THIS.
Uhm.. I'm gonna have to go with Popcorn's, here :[ I really really love the lining style used, and the pose is also a lot more interesting.
So.. yeah. Y'know.
