Inbetween a lucid state and a tripping state, I mean. I'm sure it's possible.

Ahaha, me and Sammybeany (a lurker here) were talking about would have happened if Sonic CD and Sonic 2 had been combined recently.

I argued that "too many cooks spoil the broth" and that both games work much better individually, whilst he said that it would have been an epic parallel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. Any opinions on this?

My opinion is that if they don't port Sonic CD sometime in the next ten years, then they're missing out on literally millions of dollars of revenue. People have been KILLING to play this game again, and on a more powerful platform. Hell, my Sega CD broke down about six or seven years ago!

And if they are telling the truth--if they actually physically cannot port the thing--make it again! It can't be THAT hard. Or Hell, even remake it in 3D. Adding a third dimension to a time-travel game would be quite surreal, I think.

I dont care how they do it, i just want them to port the darn thing

i can probably live without playing Chaotix, although i should soon be borrowing that off a friend

but Sonic CD, i would do (almost) anything just to even once marvel at it's glory

I'm guessing this sort of statement is how people get that "overrated" attitude about it. :)

Wait, they actually said that?

I seem to recall someone saying something about Sonic CD being done as a Sega Ages PS2 game. That would be preeettty nice, but I'm sure it was just a rumor..

I'm almost certain it is. A rumor, that is.

But haven't most of their Sega Ages remakes sucked? I base this on that Sega Classics PS2 game in which most of its remakes bring shame on the original games.

The Fantasy Zone one is nice at least, except that the Saturn version is better for being arcade perfect in the first place and having no load time (which, naturally, is appalling on the PS2). I haven't played or looked into any of the others.

It is a shame though. Flicky hasnt appeared in a game as a playable character since... well, since Flicky
According to Hari Hari the text on the Sonic Drift scan declares that there are eight racers in the game. This could have ended up being the first game to feature the other animal friends as playable characters.

Here are some other interesting facts from our favourite fan in Japan:

1. Unlike SOA, Sega of Japan did not release any character profiles for Heavy and Bomb in Chaotix

2. The Chaos Emeralds are given a unique description in each of the original Mega Drive games.
In Sonic 1 they are known as the ‘precious stones’, in Sonic 2 they are described as the ‘mysterious stones’, whereas Sonic 3 uses the term ‘power stones’ (although I’m not sure if the last one is just restricted to the Master Emerald). The significance of these descriptive phrases is unknown.

Naka's exact words were:
As for Sonic CD, we have considered maybe putting it out on something like the PS2 perhaps.
When the game failed to appear on Sonic Mega Collection +, rumours started forming about it being released as a Sega Ages title.

Naka sounds extremely certain that Sonic CD would get re-released, there.

I dunno, that's a lot of ambiguities in one sentence.

I think CE was bringing that to light with his comment.

Of course, they're dud characters. Punishment for bad Combi catchy-ness. It seemed pretty fucked up for them to be lumped in (even loosely) with the other main characters.

If anything, they should be grouped in with the enemies.

Hey guys, just noticed that the Sonic CD pic is showing a very similar effect to the warping I found in Sonic 1 a while ago, but with better graphics:

If you hadn't heard about this before, you can download the patch at my site (game modifications section).

Great stuff, by the way. Those scans are amazingly clear!

Hari Hari once again proves that his generosity knows no bounds with another bumper selection of Japanese Sonic goodies.

The following clips come from the official Sonic Adventure ‘Making of’ video:
2 clips in one RAR File

Hari Hari also made these scans of a Sonic the Fighters magazine article. The piece contains concept art of the Casino Night stage that was radically altered in the final game and also features a brief interview with Yu Suzki:
Page 1
Page 2

The gist of the interview, according to Hari Hari, is:
He is saying that it is 30% of degree of the completion and that we decided only 3 characters.
He says that we will finally decide about 8 characters in all, and he worries that it might be too cruel that children use it because MetalSonic is sharp.
And He says that we are discussing with Sonic Team sometimes about 2Pcharacter-color and more.

As ever, if posting these scans elsewhere make sure you credit Hari Hari and his website Act Select.

Keeping with the Sonic the Fighters theme here are a few scans I have made from Official Sega Saturn Magazine UK .

The first set describes a late version of the game that was shown at the AOU show. The build is almost identical to final, although AM2 still had a few decisions to make with the use of rings and player colours.

The final scan features an earlier build. At this point, Am2 were only planning to add one new character to the game.
