I would suggest removing that woman's clothes, reducing her age to 11, having her lay down on the grass, then insert the flowers from the tree aimlessly around her.

But it would be such a pain to put in all the detail required to make the pine cones look good, as of course the focus of the picture would then be the 'cones.

Well of course the pine cones would be the focus. The girl is just background filler; a mere display for the cones.

Awesome! I love the Burrobot that's just kinda lost at the corner of Labyrinth. Or maybe he's hiding, given the habits of those bastard things.

That water-feature kinda thing at the top of the Labyrinth bit is nice, too, is that an original detail? I don't remember anything like that in the level's tileset.

I suppose I should also include that I'm working on something myself right now. A 3D rendition of the Izayoi (Nasty Gatekeeper) bossfight from Dynamite Headdy.

Using this drawing I did years ago as a basis.

Current progress.

Just blocking out the composition and working out any initial issues.

Yeah, it's made up, based on those fountains that just drip water all over themselves, rather than spraying upward. I wanted more green in the composition, but I didn't want to do another waterfall, because there was already so much of it.

That Headdy picture is awesome, be sure to post the finished version!

I hope you're making money off of your talent, G.Silver. If not, it seems like a missed opportunity.

Yeah, you could be doing commissions on Deviant Art.

How would you go about segueing Labyrinth Zone into Spring Yard Zone? Some sorta aqueduct, I assume?

Yup. It's completely disrespectful to cool ruins, but I assume Labyrinth Zone is attached to Spring Yard's sewer system.

Wouldn't be too disrespectful if they were just storm sewers, not sanitary ones. From there, you could have Star Light as a highway to Scrap Brain.

Well originally (until they realised it was too hard to be this early in the game) Labyrinth Zone came after Green Hill Zone, so I guess it is where the water from all the waterfalls flows into and also where those totems which are dotted around GHZ originated.

Also indeed that picture looks utterly fantastic.

I always pictured it as not being layered, as Sonic never kept going down in those levels, but rather always came back up. I doubt they pre-planned that the water falls in Green Hill Zone go into Labyrinth Zone.

But regardless, it still looks neat! Better than a space station made of burgers.

I didn't necessarily mean that they would be layered, but rather that somewhere at the border of Green Hill Zone some of the streams that run through it would flow into the ruin complex of Labyrinth Zone. I wonder how Marble Zone connects to LZ though. The architecture is definitely different so it must be a distinct civilisation. It's clear that Star Light Zone in the original level order was something like the expanding outskirts of Spring Yard Zone, with the latter then forming the inner city or the amusement district. Must have still been quite away to Scrap Brain Zone from there however, seeing how an industrial complex would not lie so close to the downtown of a metropolis.

Did anyone else notice how the whole game takes place over the course of about one day? It starts with Green Hill Zone at bright day time, after Sonic re-emerges from the Labyrinth Zone is has become evening in Marble Zone, Star Light Zone is set wholly at night, and while Spring Yard Zone's sky looks as though it was set at dawn, Scrap Brain Zone's emissions turn the light of the rising sun into a dirty orange. And when during the ending Sonic returns to a GHZ-like setting, the sky is blue and it's the middle of the day again.

I figured Spring Yard was the outskirts of Starlight because the former actually has vegetation. Course you could argue that it's some sort of city park, but I doubt it.

Oh true, this would make much more sense. After all there are also skyscrapers visible in the background, those must be SLZ then. However the vegetation is in between those and the Zone, so maybe it really is just some sort of park, regardless of SLZ being the main part of the city. It's a bit too orderly for wilderness, and it wouldn't make sense to have unbound nature separates two parts of a city. Unless SLZ is supposed to be some kind of surreal... road, what with the lights, the long slopes, tunnel-like segments, and advertisements. Though going back to early versions of the game Sparkling Zone looked like a sort of of Hong Kong-ish casino or shopping district, didn't it?

You could also argue it is a video game and not a real island.

I plan to continue this later by properly drawing fine lines instead of those rough pixels and by colouring it, but not today any more.
