Because that will fix everything.
We should kill everybody past S3&K. Preferably kill everyone past Sonic the Hedgehog.

Don't Tails and Knuckles just continue the naming trend actually started by naming a hyperfast blue hedgehog "Sonic"?

Then we get to retarded names, like what does the word "Amy" have to do with her appearance?
Or Rouge for that matter, I have never seen her wear red.
Maybe Sega just have a problem naming female characters.

In the Sonic CD manual, Amy is also called "Rosie the Rascal", which I guess was supposed to be a nickname that didn't catch on. Either way, "Rose" or "Rosie" probably refers to her color.

"Tails", on the other hand, has never been referred to as Tails the Fox (damn, I feel dirty for saying that.) - always as Miles "Tails" Prower. So I hardly see how his name follows any pattern.

Well there was a debate at Sega. The name Miles Prower was going to be used at first in Sonic 2 but someone (a programmer I think) prefered the name Tails so the name Tails was slipped in to make Miles "Tails" Prower as in "Tails" was his nickname.

I think it was the other way around, actually.

I wasn't sure which way round at first but yeah, either way it clears up the incoherency of his name.

I think her name refers more to the fact that a rose is a flower with thorns and Amy is a hedgehog girl with sharp quills. Unfortunely the quills aspect seems to have disappeared in the later Uekawa design with Amys head quills being disguised as hair and her back quills completly removed.

At least now she doesn't look like Sonic in drag. Minnie Mouse was a bad idea in 1928 and she's a bad idea now.

But, then who would Pete kidnap?

Well, at least the drag thing wasn't applied to Goofy (who somehow has a son). I have no qualms with the existence of Minnie or Daisy. I rather like Daisy, actually.

Agreed. She has a sort of sassy quality to her, I think, but that's just guessing. I can't remember how she acted in the cartoons at all.

She has a nice fat ass too.
I much prefer Petes wife from Goof Troop though.

So not the direction I was hoping this discussion was going, though inevitable I guess.

Where WERE you hoping the discussion was going? Maybe we could kick its arse back on track.

Way to change context, Omni.

My pleasure, although I was only following your and Eggrolls lead.
Going back on topic as you asked so nicely what do the names Rouge or Blaze have to do with thier character?
Blaze might be a reference to speed but the again I dunno.

Daisy's only sassy the Mickey Mouseworks/House of Mouse cartoons. She hardly had any personality beyond being Donald's caring girlfriend in the old theatrical shorts. I don't mind Minnie Mouse(and that she does look like Mickey in drag), though like Daisy she really didn't have any personality beyond damsel-in-distress.

And I agree with GG! that Amy Rose's name refers to her color because 'rose' is French for 'pink'.

As for Rouge and Blaze. Uh, maybe Rouge's name relates in that she wears make-up? And for Blaze, I read that she supposed to be the guardian of the Sol Emeralds. Sol = Sun = Blazing Hot *shrugs*

Ray's a radiating guy?

And I still think that having Amys name refer to the flower is more exotic ( :P ) but you are problably right.

I'd say the rose -> thorns -> spines thing is much more clever. Probably too clever for them to have intended it, really.

Poor Goofy had to fight with Horace Horseface to try to date a damn cow.

I didn't that say that roses themselves were exotic, I said having the name derived from roses were much more exotic than having her just named "Pink". But as Kishi pointed out it's was problably to clever for Sonic Team to come up with.

Horace Horseface, eh? Well he is one though rival because after all.. he is hung like a horse!!BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahaha.. haha.. ha.. ha.. eh.. maybe I should go to bed?

The thorns could also symbolize to her annoying personality.
