16 bit animation

Post by Opa-Opa »

After 2 months of hard work and pizza, me and 5 other friends managed to finish this video here.

We did it to promote a national design event for students and professionals, happening here in Rio de Janeiro this year. Of course, that was just an excuse to make a highly Paul Robertson influenced animation.

There's a lot of inside jokes there but I hope that won't take away most of the fun.

So it's Woodstock for nerds. I think I resent you now.

Cool work! I like the little details like the reflections in the mirrors. How do you go about making something like this?

I find it hard for me to consider something Paul Robertson-influenced these days without that certain disturbing element in it, though I bet the guys in charge of your event might have appreciated that less.

Hahahah, well, Woodstock for designers, but with less drugs.

We were heavily inspired by that old "Syke drink commercial" video he did a long time ago, with the many videogame references.

That's definitely my favourite visual metaphor for sex ever. I'm guessing this was done in After Effects? There was one part where the character's sprite looked like it was 1/2 a pixel off from being perfeclty aligned a became a bit blurry, which is something that can happen when you're doing this kind of thing in AE. It was still great though!

16 bit animation is hard, its amazing what you did guys, and you also did hand draw stuff... and to think it takes me two hours just to get a single 16 bit sprite done-_-

Ok, I was just toying with gimp a lot... but still two hours are two hours!

That was pretty cool! It was like watching gameplay footage from something by the folks responsible for the Scott Pilgrim game, but I also got a good sense of what this event is about.

It kind of reminded me of Homestuck, if Homestuck was set in 16 bits... ok, it kind of reminded me of Bob and George the few times they actually did good animation...

Yah it reminds me of Sherlock Holmes, except that he's not a detective and is now in a video game. Or Don Quixote but with pixels instead of windmills.
