Eguchi Stalker

So I've been following Hisashi Eguchi on Twitter. No, not Hisashi Eguchi (江口寿史), famous manga artist, but Hisashi Eguchi (江口寿志), the prolific animator credited as "Chief Key Animator" in Sonic CD's opening and ending. At the time I found him (I had been mistakenly following the other Eguchi for quit...

Re: Hardware Mania

I agree, go PC all the way here. If you've got one already it probably can handle all those games (mine can and it's pretty old) and of course you have that level of backwards compatibility that consoles can't match. Though I think the SA titles on Steam are based on the Gamecube versions (correct?)...

Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes

That's not an error, at least not in porting. Sonic 1 always had that quirk to it.

Now that I think about it I wonder if that's why I felt like the roll was de-emphasized in other games? Rolling was always the sure fire way to keep your speed in Sonic 1 I never really questioned why that was...

Nintendo Switch & Mario Adventure

Edit: Moved this stuff in here. Because I am a shitty mod, the old posts from the Sonic Mania thread got pushed on top of Gaz's. Sorry! So speaking of the Switch, did anybody else see how Super Mario Odyssey is obviously lifting its ideas from Sonic Adventure? Even the name is a dead give away. Mari...

Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes

I've known you could get into the room by not touching the controls for a long time, but I always had to take control once there. I think leaving it alone for a bit would also get me really close for Special Stages 2 and 3 as well. I mentioned hearing that the physics were off in another thread (som...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Has anyone considered that maybe Chaos Emeralds might actually be sort of common? We usually only see one set of Chaos Emeralds at a time but maybe there are no "sets," and the colors are just there for our convenience as players--in actuality what matters is collecting a certain number of them and ...

Re: OH YES Sonic Mania

I played it! They had demos at PAX West. Studiopolis was really fun. I had thought it looked excessively busy (too many bumpers) from watching videos but playing it it all clicked and everything felt really right. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, 2D sonic stages I've played since S3K. An...

Re: Controllers

MFI should work with either device. Yeah I didn't suggest jailbreaking, less for the dodginess and more for the possibility that it might not work with the game. But I imagine they might have a lot of unofficial support for other controllers, too. According to this review the 8bitdo controllers (or ...

Re: Controllers

Apparently (I haven't tried this) the Sonic games are all compatible with "MFI" ("Made for iPhone") certified gamepads, so that's what you should be looking for. Looking on Amazon it's difficult to find ones any less than the $50-60 range, though. The cheap "old school" console knockoff ones don't a...

Re: Kinda neat - the Sonic merch thread

A friend of mine just came back from Japan and said these "pinched" (as if they were being picked up by a UFO catcher or something) keychains and cell straps were all over the place. And there was a Sonic one, too. He didn't grab one for me, though! http://img.amiami.jp/images/product/main/133//CGD2...

Re: Kinda neat - the Sonic merch thread

By the way if anyone is considering picking up those glasses, I was gifted a set of similar ones from Hot Topic (it may have been the same maker) a while back and the art was peeling away after only one wash (a hand wash, at that). I have other similar cups that have done fine (made by company calle...

Re: Kinda neat - the Sonic merch thread

Wow, can you believe this? Here's a fashion company that clearly gets it. Beneath the colorful and nostalgic characters, Sonic games are dead on the inside, mired in disillusionment and false hopes. Truly, this is Sonic the Hedgehog in 2016 in human form: https://s32.postimg.org/68n5ibwc5/sonic_Fash...

Re: Sonic Mega Drive

I wondered! I actually follow Herms on DA and his style there (especially with Sonic) is really consistent, so I was thinking this might be someone else. Am I right in thinking that the coloring is different from the main book? I haven't looked at a new issue in a while.

A follow up on that NiGHTS interview at Shmuplations, this one deals specifically with the A-Life system: http://shmuplations.com/alife/ I have to admit this doesn't go into much detail as far as how the system works, I would have liked to see a more authoritative explanation of how it works, and no...

Re: Sonic 2016 Rumours

That concept art is interesting. It looks like Sonic could smash bridges to access new routes. There's some Sonic 2 concept art, where Sonic could use the bullets from enemies to do something similar,, so it looks like Yasuhara was quite keen on the idea. I don't think I've seen that one, have you ...

I started second guessing myself (my Japanese sure isn't perfect) but there's a couple guys in Sonic Stadium's comments who noticed the same thing.

I went to E3, and I got to play a little Cuphead! The demo was churning through players really fast, so I didn't get to play as long as I would have liked--there was nobody guiding it, but people seemed to leave when they died to let someone else play, so I died just like anyone else and stepped asi...

Re: Sonic Mega Drive

Is the colorist on this one of Archie's regulars? The textural effects and some of the bolder colors (check out the red panel in the middle of this page) really give me a pleasant "European comic" vibe. Reminds me a little bit of the early Fleetway issues.
