Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I think the Incredibles in particular wasn't even that safe. It had more focus on death than most adult superhero movies. It was criticized at the time for it, too. The thing a friend of mine pointed out about the "saying everybody's special is the same as saying no one is" thesis of The Incredible...

Re: I didn't send it in, really!
I took a look back on the threads that were going on when I joined (2005 or so). Of the worthwhile posts, I'd say about half the people still post. A hefty loss to be sure, but the board isn't even half as entertaining as it used to be. And apparently that's the tail end of the "glory era". I don't ...

Wouldn't it be ironic if this Kogen was somehow related to the Kogen on the main forum calling us all out on being bitchy and too negative?

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
It's not caught-in-your-head-for-weeks catchy like Emerald Coast or Star Light Zone, but that's kind of what I was talking about how divergent it was from the usual Sonic soundtrack. Less about short bursts of powerpop, more about the mainstream process of texturing and creating sound beds that fit ...

Re: I didn't send it in, really!
That's almost a shame, since the paralysis cutscene in the last story is quite possibly the best so-awful-it's-funny offering Shadow makes.

Re: I didn't send it in, really!
The controls on Shadow aren't great, but they're not awful either. The gunplay is fucked since you can't aim the bastards, and most of the missions/stages involve hunting/finding a large number of difficult-to-find things in very boring generic post-apocalyptic or Heroes-esque stages. However, when ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
It was basically like the rest of the game: surprisingly divergent from the Sonic archetype. Only difference was the experimentation paid off (seeing as how Heroes just kinda demonstrated how bored they were with the "Sonic archetype" music-wise.) I enjoyed it, anyway. Although if I have to hear one...

Re: Mega Man Nine
I agree with the time-management thing. If I'm going to be spending two or more paychecks' worth of leisure money on a game, then I don't want it to entertain me for an afternoon of anti-social-extreme levels of immersion. I'll put several chunks in, and when the game truly benefits from immersion b...

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I'm reminded of the US Unleashed boxart, since one half has all the stupid shit on it and the other half looks pretty decent. I forecast further "God, they have the right idea, but so much awful bullshit in the way".

Re: Mega Man Nine
I like smooth, fluid gameplay that rewards my efforts at attempting to learn it by letting me look totally badass when I nail it perfectly, but have a cool aesthetic/setting/idea to keep me interested until I can get to the adrenaline rush. That's why I love 95% of Mirror's Edge. But God, does the o...

Pretty sure he was referring to Sonic's cheesy line before fighting Shadow in SA2.

Yyyyeah, because the character-versus-character battles have been the highlight of the last decade of Sonic games.

Coming from apparently the only guy here who could tolerate Partners, let alone really like it, trust me when I say I don't see how it could be essential to the enjoyment this game.

Re: YE' GADS!!! Sonic '06 finally does something good!
At least as far as controlabe and fun Sonic gameplay is concerned, I think Sonic Team was most successful in SA, partly because Sonic's speed was limited (at least relative to following 3D Sonic titles), making it possible for the player to fully account for the environment Sonic was rushing into, ...

Re: I couldn't find that selling thread so I just made a new one
The DX rerelease robbed it of some of its charm, but I don't think there was enough difference that the original DC would change anyone's mind. It's possible that it's a combination of playing backwards through the 3D series, being introduced to SA1's finer points through them having been run into t...

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I was on board with how dumb this whole thing was because I thought the game was aware, too. But all these bland environments give me the impression that they're taking this very seriously and think the talking sword is even cooler than the gun. I'll pass.
