Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
You will understand who the 2DS if and when you ever a parent who has two sub-eight-year-olds who want to play Pokemon. The primary appeal of the design is it looks like a toy that you could drop a lot without breaking it. The iPhone and its ilk are luxury devices and most American families do not b...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
DLC sales skew older, so if this preorder bonus is going to become pay-for DLC later, maybe they are trying to make it appeal to the older buyers specifically?

2D, turn-based RPGs are perfect for touch devices. But they sure ain't perfect for the free-to-play model.

You have to do a certain volume to use a regular printer, but when you do, there are advantages for sure!

Re: GHZ Kickstarter Picks
In general, it's not a big deal, because we're funding the minimum print run, which is more books than we need to sell to hit the goal. Right now this run is planned to be 80% softcover and 20% hardcover, but there's flexibility there. The interiors are all the same and are printed at once, so the p...

Re: GHZ Kickstarter Picks
Yes! I am going to do crazy shit to these books if people will let me... extra stories and content for all the omnibuses, and fancy physical enhancements for the hardcovers. I'm just budgeting it out right now but I should be able to post about it soon.

I launched my kickstarter this morning!

It... um... is already 80% funded. I can't believe it. I guess people like enormous books?

Re: Awaiting your orders, miss Jade
My understanding is that Ubisoft doesn't want to lose Ancel (one of gaming's few auteur figures), so they have kept him placated by keeping BG&E 2 in somewhat active preproduction since they canned Rayman 4 for Raving Rabbids. The story goes that, after a couple years of this preproduction, they wer...

The nicest thing I can say about Sonic 4 is that they kindly provide a free demo to warn you not to actually buy it.

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
It was pretty tragic how big a mess Generations final boss was. The worst for me will always be the Unleashed final boss, though... that one irritated me so much that I put the game down and didn't go back to finish it for months. There have been a lot of bad, mechanically "left field" final bosses ...

Re: New Sonic Cartoon
I like them. I wish they had sprung for more traditional full animation, but they have very wisely picked an art style that makes digital shortcuts look good and feel stylistically intentional. These shorts have been in the works forever -- I remember hearing about them nearly two years ago! I'm gla...

He didn't cackle. But he did hand me some Sonic buttons!
I don't think he bought one. I figure Aaron is savvy enough to know it might not be doing folks favours to wear rad fan-made Sonic stuff in the eye of SEGA's legal department.

Re: There is a Sonic webcomic and it is ok
The problem with a work like Not Enough Rings -- and I use the word "problem" very loosely here, since I certainly don't have a problem with it personally -- is the visual derivation. Narratively, it is clearly a direct parody. But visually, it's a recreation. It's not a Sonic-esque character in a S...

Re: There is a Sonic webcomic and it is ok
Despite what their FAQ says, this is pretty dubious from a copyright perspective. But SEGA looks the other way on a lot of this kind of stuff, so it might not matter.

Re: New Sonic Cartoon
The funny part is, American and Canadian studios switched to Flash-style animation so they could afford to do all the animation in house instead of overseas... but now the overseas studios have also switched and are doing most of it anyway.

Re: New Sonic Cartoon
I was wondering when we'd see the next Sonic cartoon. The license is still really popular with kids. Even now at Walmart I see t-shirts with friggin' Silver the Hedgehog right next to the ones for Skylanders and the new Ninja Turtles cartoon. It is kind of mind-boggling. After what happened with Son...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
It's interesting to read the interviews with Iizuka and basically hear him say that, sure, they COULD have made another Colours/Generations style game since people liked those, but they got kind of tired of them and wanted to do something different instead. When was the last time they could say that?

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
Based on this playthrough, I'd guess the reason Sonic's "run" looks like the Super Peel Out is because of how it charges on the spot when you hold the run button without moving.

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
I think a lot of Sonic fans are just in that fussy 10-14 age range. If you work with (or have) kids that age you'll learn they become incredibly preoccupied with not appearing like they are into "kiddy" things. When I go to cons, people under the age of 10 or over the age of 16 will readily tell you...

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
It's hyper safe. On the other hand, when we say other developers showed off "new IP", what do we really mean? I mean, which new IP are we talking about... photorealistic gun game, photorealistic car game, or photorealistic gun and car game? I mean, don't get me wrong... I like some of those games! B...

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
I think it's interesting that Nintendo didn't unveil a single game at e3 that wasn't multiplayer. I worry a little that the multiplayer focus of 3D World will limit the level design, but EAD has made three great Mario games in a row and I pretty much trust them implicitly at this point. I don't thin...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
I SEE THE DRILL IS COMING BACK (the drill is my favourite Sonic power up of all time) I generally like the look of the Windy Hill stage, but I a) love the disjointed planetoid format of the Mario Galaxy games, and b) love exploring for hidden stuff, which there appears to be a lot of. Those big tube...
