Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

So I got this last week and am currently up to stage 4. Why has this game produced such an apathetic response? It's actually brilliant. Yeah, I actually fucking love this game. I find myself constantly replaying levels (even though I've s-ranked every stage and gotten all the red rings) and just so...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

This is also a bit of a unintentional cruel tease, because Hirokazu Yasuhara who did all the level design for the Mega Drive games (and Sonic R), now works at Nintendo. They keep on doing all these Nintendo/Sonic crossovers and tie-ins, yet they don't seem to be bringing back Yasuhara. Why?!! It's ...

Re: Sonic 2 mobile with Hidden Palace

We need an HD port of PSO1 to consoles. fucking, RIGHT ??? PSO1 HD on psn with online enabled would be somewhat of a perfect retro release. It's the kind of game that would really benefit from modern day online gaming infrastructure in a big way. Even a streamlined version of the game that did away...

Re: Sega Maniacs at M2

You can run Android on PC via Bluestack. Most Android phones support the Wiimote (allowing for proper controls) and a lot of newer phones can connect to the TV. There's also the Xperia Play which is a phone and portable gaming device in one (complete with PSP style controller). Those all sound like...

Barring of course the fact that it's on mobile devices only. That's a deal breaker for me.

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems

So is anyone even planning to get one of these new machines? The ps4 comes out this week after all. Apparently the launch games are incredibly weak this time around, surprising no one. With no big titles and only marginally better looking graphics, it's hard to imagine these new consoles performing ...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

I'd cut a lot of the parkour stuff too, honestly. The ledge grabing and vertical wall running is fine, but the Prince of Persia-style running-along-the-sides-of-walls wall running is a big wash, especially compared to previous games. Lost World's big innovation lets you perform a horizontal wall ru...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

The snowball stage is possibly the perfect example of one of the game's biggest problems... because I actually like the snowball stage! I dig those kind of games, and I've played a bunch of them, so I found it a reasonably competent and not especially difficult spin on the formula. I didn't mind th...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

So I got the game last night. I was the only person at the midnight launch there for Sonic in a sea of Battlefield/Assassin's creed bros. When I told the cashiers I was there for lost world, they cheered. The game itself is adequately fun. I was unhappy with Generations so I think I'm more open to t...

And on that subject I'm all aflutter that they've finally reintroduced (and canonized!) SA1's spindash ramp launching. Despite me having always known better than anyone what was best for Sonic, their control scheme is astonishingly on point and actually exceeds my designs. Gated speed is intelligen...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

I always wonder if Iizuka gets too much credit or not enough. Producers are important, but these games do also have actual directors (Iizuka hasn't directed a console Sonic title since Shadow), and we never really hear what those directors think or what level of design autonomy they have when plann...

I'm more convinced than ever that this man needs to be taken off the franchise. The last ten years absolutely smack of terrible leadership and poor taste. You know, with each new game in the series I get the feeling Iizuka isn't the red devil everyone makes him out to be. If you ignore the werehog ...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

In general I think critics just like to shit on sega no matter what they do. It upsets me when reviewers give the WInd Waker remake (or any new zelda game) a perfect 10 while they say Jet Set Radio and Space channel 5 remakes just don't hold up. I don't know about shitting on them so much as not ev...

Agreed. Man this has been a pretty depressing turn of events. Especially when you consider a game like Skylander's Swapforce is being praised by critics across the board.

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

There's a little bonus round thing where you launch Tails out of a canon to pop balloons and collect rings, which I guess counts as playable Tails? He goes into a little spinning ball with his Tails impossibly trailing behind, just like in the old games. That's actually one of the only spoilers I c...

I didn't mind them either, save for the final 2. Those were real stinkers. The Shadow fight got on my nerves a little bit as what should have been a simple race to the finish turned into something I still can't quite make sense out of. The real surprise for me turned out to be the silver fight, whic...

Re: Sonic Generations blows

I do think, though, that even if you don't LIKE it, it's hard to accuse the game of being loveless or lazy. There is a lot of effort all over this thing, although maybe you have to play more than the demo to get that vibe. The new team certainly gave it their best shot, even if they might be in ove...
