Re: Dumbest animal in Japan

http://www.gamebusiness.jp/article.php?id=4692 According to this article, the manual was indeed removed to cut costs. It also mentions a couple of other games (including a Wii game) that recently shipped without manuals. Apparently this is how it's going to be done from now on. I don't recall ever r...

Re: Dumbest animal in Japan

One other thing I forgot to mention (about the game, not the case) - for the first time ever as far as I recall, you can carry two power-ups at once and toggle between them on the fly. Tanuki Mario doesn't fly anymore, though. Up to World 4 - still haven't shrunk even once. I don't think it's gonna ...

Re: Dumbest animal in Japan

Yeah, there's pictures of power-ups and enemies and shit on the back of the cover slip and it's all perfectly aligned so that the faces are centered in the holes in the case. That's why I wasn't sure if it was some anal-retentive cost-cutting measure or some misguided attempt to create a unique aest...

Dumbest animal in Japan

Compared to Louisiana, roadkill is fairly rare here - I don't know if that's because the animals are fewer or just smarter - but when the rare critter does happen to meet its end on the road, it's almost inevitably a tanuki. I have yet to see a living tanuki. In fact, I've yet to see a tanuki that d...

Re: So I'm an ambassador now

I actually didn't download a single ambassador game because I am totally not interested in having old games on my new machines. I took Excitebike because it was free, but usually I don't even play remakes. Ocarina of Time is a Nintendo 64 game. It's been out for 13 years and I played it 13 years ago...

Re: Smarmy plaster had it coming

You are not Ryo Hazuki. You will never be Ryo Hazuki. The sooner you accept this, the quicker we can start the healing process. I see. The main problem is that there's this kind of thick wallpaper over it. I doubt I can find the same thing, so even if I could fix it myself, the landlords would stil...

Re: So I'm an ambassador now

So does anyone have any actual software for this thing yet? All I've got is Excitebike (which was free, and which I played only once for about 15 minutes on the train to Tokyo) and some puzzle platform looking thing starring a little sumo dude I downloaded from the eShop a few weeks ago. Haven't pla...

Smarmy plaster had it coming

So I'm wondering - and this is purely out of the blue, mind, not prompted by any actual recent events or anything - but I'm wondering if any of you guys has ever had a hole in your wall? That you put there? With your fist? Twice? So like, two fist holes in different walls. Again mind, this is totall...

Re: What are you playing today?

So this thing called Sideway turns up out of nowhere on PSN. It's a platformer that takes place in a 2D graffiti world on 3D polygonal buildings, so the orientation changes every time you switch surfaces. It's a cool idea, but it's the only idea, so it is a one-trick pony. It's the sort of gimmick t...

Re: Tetsuhiko Kikuchi: Draws with a mouse?

I was surprised to see those, I couldn't believe Guardian Heroes was big enough to have its own avatar store. Is this update meant to have an original pixelized mode? Because that looks way better than the inkwash piss filter they're using to "update" the graphics to HD. There is no way to make HD g...

Re: What is your job?

You can't download porn, though, can you? It sounds fine, as long as you have no other commitments whatsoever. Most people don't. In the states, "job" and "life" are usually considered different things, but here they are one and the same. Mothers with young children usually do leave earlier than ever...

Re: What is your job?

Average work day here is from 8 to 7, six days a week or 5 days a week then half days on Saturday and Sunday. Most people also don't take lunch breaks any longer than it takes them to devour whatever they bring, usually about 5 minutes.

I don't think there's any problem with this!

Re: What is your job?

My degree is in animation, but I'm not technical-minded enough to handle the intricacies of Maya or 3D Studio Max or whatever they're using these days. I mainly just like drawing pictures, which is not enough to survive on and I'm not particularly good at it anyway, so I gave up on all that. Now, I ...

Re: What are you playing today?

I was looking forward to that, but the demo kind of turned me off. It did feel a bit button mashy and the level design wasn't too interesting. I felt like it would've gotten repetitive fast. Plus the narration just wasn't working for me, everytime that guy made a comment about some inane action it j...

Re: Archaeology

I strolled into a Japanese Toys-R-Us for the first time today. It was about half the size of the one I used to know back in the states, and that one was in a city that's about half the size of Morioka. Most of the toys were geared to a younger set, like the 5-10 age bracket. There was precious small...

Re: Archaeology

My general understanding is that the food is overpriced and consistently lousy. Apparently you have to pay just to enter and if you stay beyond the designated time limit, you have to pay again. And if you want to take pictures, that's an additional fee. But yeah, maybe Duffy can provide us with a mo...

Re: Archaeology

Apparently late era MD games from overseas were sold here in very limited quantities and are extremely rare today. Not that Maximum Carnage isn't totally worth the equivalent of a US grand. I have yet to try a maid cafe even though I really want to cause I always go to Tokyo alone and, well, I'm 30 ...
