Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

Namco isn't publishing this game, Nintendo is. Namco is just building a game according to Nintendo's specification, so it's entirely up to Nintendo what extraneous meta-transaction spiel will or will not be present. See: Amiibos.

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

A lot of the enemies and objects seem to have been taken from Sonic Colors. Iizuka mentioned in that French Sonic history book that they weren't originally going to have a game for the 20th Anniversary, implying that work on Generations started very late. If that's the case, then using Colors asset...

Re: New Sonic game for 2015

Spoiler: the "retro look" is modern Sonic -- it has now been around for almost 17 years compared to classic Sonic's 7-year run. You are no longer a part of Sega's audience.

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

I tend to forget Generations is a thing due to how poorly all the enemies and other classic gimmicks were handled. It's like they had a separate team handling the landscape design (which looks amazing) and the object design (which looks either boring, or overly messy and unreadable). It got better i...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

Ah, but they've obviously tweaked the proportions to be a bit more inline with classic Sonic than Boosty McBooster. You can see the difference in spine length between Smash 4 and Brawl: http://www.smashbros.com/images/character/sonic/screen-6.jpg http://www.smashbros.com/wii/en_us/characters/images/...

Re: New Sonic game for 2015

That was probably their primary motivation, but they had existing choices that already have at least some fan love. Cream, Rouge, Blaze - heck, it already looks like a Marine redesign. Maybe it started that way? Maybe they wanted to minimize the number of characters they updated for fear of the bac...

Re: Farewell, Seabelly Riverback

I guess I should give this topic some sort of closure. The game is now available from Nintendo eShop in the US for $29.99 as Yumi's Odd Odyssey , published by Natsume, and in Europe for €24.99 as Sayonara UmiharaKawase (why the weird kerning?), published by Agatsuma themselves. This is a day where I...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

Not to mention, half of Zero Suit Samus's moves are based around the aforementioned incredibly weak pistol, which has been expanded on but still has the basic function of stunning other fighters. You HAVE played the game, right?

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

There's no way that bit at the end is the "second half" of Zero Mission. You don't even play as Zero Suit Samus for all of it, either! Okay, caught me with my pants down, I haven't actually played the game. But regardless of how we measure our halves, the point I was trying to make is "everything t...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

You do realize that the second half of Metroid Zero Mission is played entirely as Zero Suit Samus, right? And there's been two redundant versions of Link since Melee, so I don't see your point. I mean, I could get behind streamlining the character lineup as much as the next guy, but there are far mo...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

But man, Zero Suit Samus has really gotten voluptuous since we saw her in Brawl. Is she running around with D-cups in Metroid games? I don't know anything about Metroid, but that can't be practical for a ... space... warrior? Alien hunter? Thing? She's also supposed to be over 6 feet tall and aroun...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.

The less said about Zero Suit Samus having laser high-heels the better. I don't get this. I haven't played a lot of Metroid games, so I just took them as Portal-esque jump boots. She is, after all, just a human when she doesn't have her armor suit on. Why is a pair of shoes such a point of contenti...

Re: Popcorn needed

There's no way that news about a "dark, edgy" live-action Sonic movie is real. If Sega's current method of operation is anything to go by, any Sonic movie they make will likely be animated and all-ages. But what you just described is Sonic Boom. If they were about to make yet another offshoot to ta...

Re: Sonic 2 mobile with Hidden Palace

That's weird, I was wrong. (That's not the weird part.) Mark Cerny in fact does not appear to be credited at all in the original game. I also checked Knuckles lock-on and it's an exact copy, so no luck there. This is kind of alarming because Cerny was the one who founded the STI and made Sonic 2 pos...

Re: Sonic 2 mobile with Hidden Palace

So I had to see this for myself (on youtube, anyway) and sought out some footage, and in doing so came across a partial credit roll that includes Mark Cerny's name (as "Programmer")--it even comes up before Yuji Naka's! At that moment the banal LP switches away so I wasn't able to tell if any other...

Not only that, but they experiment a lot of new stuff instead of trying to improve on the existing formula.

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

There's also Sonic 2, which according to our documented prototypes had stuff like Super Sonic and the final title screen implemented only weeks before launch. Sonic 1 was likely rushed too, since it was such an important game at the time, and this is supported by the Japanese version that was releas...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive

I'm more convinced than ever that this man needs to be taken off the franchise. The last ten years absolutely smack of terrible leadership and poor taste. You know, with each new game in the series I get the feeling Iizuka isn't the red devil everyone makes him out to be. If you ignore the werehog ...

Re: SONIC HYDRO THUNDER

Wait, Secret Rings was bad now? I can't keep up with all these retcons. I'm referring to how absurd the concept of it is when you actually try and explain it. I mean, Sonic has an enchanted ring and it place in a pre-Islamic Arabic setting. It's like a Sonic/Aladdin/Lord of the Rings fan-fiction to...
