It's probably mapped to pressing the left disc (MOVEMENT, with a filled circle reading SP..., probably SPACE, which is the default jump button). But that shouldn't stop us from trying to find stuff wrong with it before anyone even holds the damn thing.

The obvious fake-out answer: the moon is still broken, we've just been looking at the opposite side. (This is not how the moon works.)

I saw that yesterday, and my first thought was that it's kind of sad that they traced over the Sonic 2 slot machine icons. Oh well, whatever it takes for them not to look like dogshit, I guess.

So Toki Tori 2 is pretty damn amazing. If you enjoy puzzle games, then this is one of the finest, most clever ones I've ever played. The intricacy of the game world is astounding and everything just makes sense when put together; there's this overwhelming feeling of cohesion that makes everything ju...

Re: Game Music
Sure, I guess. Tonic Trouble has a pretty amazing soundtrack, composed by Eric Chevalier (of Rayman 2 fame). The songs were actually composed with different moods in mind, with the idea that the music would change as you progress through the levels. Until recently the only things floating on the int...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
I'll admit to having not figured out that I was destroying the sub boss by luring its missiles back into its small vulnerable parts. I actually defeated it the first time without having any idea that was how I'd damaged it. Throwing in my two cents, it was perfectly intuitive to me what I had to do...

Re: New Sonic Cartoon
But to be fair, only Sonic 2 was made with americans on board, which resulted in the most visually inconsistent Sonic game ever made (go look at Emerald Hill, then Oil Ocean). Sonic 3 was made exclusively with a Japanese team, except still under the roof of the STI.

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
The crowning moment of awesome here is that even Nintendo cares more about Mega Man than Capcom does. The music! The sound effects! The animations based on his NES poses! You can taste the love! Also, AC villager with Balloon Fight moves! People had always been clamoring for both playable villager a...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
Call me old, but I never got past the first Werehog level in Unleashed. There's that big guy that shows up and I tried pounding on him repeatedly until he died, but it never worked and I figured I had to use combos or some shit and that's not Sonic and I turned the game off and never played it again...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
So, Generations. And Colors. And Unleashed, actually. I'll give you Colors, but what are Dark Gaia and Time Eater if not Agathean Fire Gods? Maybe I wasn't clear. I want plots where Eggman is competent and is able to succeed by himself . Without the help of a supernatural creature which might or mi...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
I know some folks really want to see Eggman played straight as a major, serious villain, but I don't know... I never really saw him that way. I mean, right from the start he was a big round guy who put animals in robot bugs and built big ships shaped like his face. I'm not saying Eggman has to be D...

Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of six menacing creatures collectively known as the Deadly Six, but when the Deadly Six rise up against their master, Sonic has to unite with his arch nemesis in order to take on the new enemies head-on. GRROOOOOOOOOAAAAN Remember when Eggman used to be a competen...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
I think you're all jumping to conclusions. According to Sega's press release , all this collaboration consists of is the next 3 Sonic titles having Nintendo consoles as their "number one destination". To me this sounds like "Sonic games will launch on Wii U and 3DS a few months before any other plat...

Re: Sonic 1.... in 3D
the game appears to be letterboxed in their own screens To be clear, the original games had a 320x224 window, and the 3DS's top screen is 400x240. So for the sake of pixel perfection there's effectively 8-pixel gaps both on top and bottom. Original hardware would generally scale it to 4:3 (and to s...

Re: Sonic 1.... in 3D
That is really weird, not that they didn't do widescreen exactly (the 3DS isn't exactly a wide-screen format, is it?) but that the game appears to be letterboxed in their own screens. Even without a Taxman-like rebuild I would think if they can get into the "guts" enough to make it 3D, they ought t...

What's wrong with pumpkin in the alley? Once you realize the plot is about anthropomorphic hedgehogs which run fast and bend time and space, you also realize you're clearly in camp territory and enjoy how the music gives each character their own unique signature feel. Knuckles gets the hip-hop styli...

In terms of inspiration, SA2 is definitely a contender, but he said "stage design," not "inspiration." If you strip away the visual fluff, you're left with a lot of samey flat surfaces linked by tubes and rails that may or may not also be flat, every level is Speed Highway. SA1 had a greater variet...
