Re: Journey
If the game made you cry, that's great- I can understand why the online co-op here is striking a chord with people (despite this being a common feature for about a decade now, with other games having done it much, much better ) An isometric Tomb Raider spin-off, played by what sounds like a pair of...

Re: Journey
I thought the stakes were your ability to fly. I constantly wanted to fly further, which was the motivation to go out of your way to find the hidden glyphs that give you a longer scarf. That's also what made it so frustrating to lose your scarf to the monsters. Plus, losing your scarf makes it harde...

I should have clarified that by "appropriate", I just meant someone with a similar level of experience to you. Pair new players with other new players, and experienced players with other experienced players. I kind of assumed their matchmaking algorithms already worked along those lines, but I dunno...

Re: Journey
I played it today. It was pretty great. I only really have two complaints. The first was somewhat unavoidable - simply that it was a PS3 exclusive when it would obviously benefit from being multiplatform. I'd like to think that's not just me being entitled. Journey is a game all about building a rel...

Ancel added to my "people to watch" list, thanks. I'd heard his name around before but I guess I had never formed an association.

Re: Who left all these propane tanks lying around anyway?
I just played the Rayman Origins demo. It doesn't feel much like Rayman, but then none of the sequels really felt much like the original game. What happened to the original Rayman team? They made one really great game, a level editor, a bunch of edutainment remakes, and then the next game was a 3D p...

It sounds really cool. I've been fascinated by online multiplayer from when I first played an MMO, and I'm guessing Popcorn had a similar experience, although in my case it was World of Warcraft rather than PSO. (I played in a roleplaying guild which was strictly in-character at all times, which mad...

Claustrophobic level design, obstacles that are impossible to anticipate, bottomless pits, enemies with health points, a momentum-killing homing attack, ugly art assets, and clipping issues.
Yep, it's Sonic 4.

Re: Massive tsunami hits Japan (JARED MATTE MEMORIAL THREAD,
It's been a year since the earthquake happened. The first two weeks following the earthquake were probably the most surreal of my life. I remember using every chance I got to pore over the Tepco reports and then spending entire evenings dissecting them with friends over Skype. It really highlighted ...

I don't know about their dark chocolate, but I'm not a big fan of Lindt's milk chocolate - something about it doesn't sit well in my mouth. I don't really have the vocabulary to express what it is. I love me some Toblerone, though. One time I had chocolate with chili in it. It was good! And that's a...

Re: Sonic 4 Episode 2 Not to Come until 2012
This decision makes a lot of sense from a game design perspective. Looks like they're going all-in with the co-op gameplay they showed in the trailer. If they can pull it off, then it'll be an interesting take on the classic games, which is a lot more than I was expecting.

Re: Sonic 4 Episode 2 Not to Come until 2012
I'm pleased about what they're doing with the Sonic/Tails partnership. That's an obvious defining feature of the classic games that was never explored to its full potential. One of the drawbacks of having 3 playable characters in S3&K was that there wasn't really room for anything unique for the Son...

Re: Sonic 4 Episode 2 Not to Come until 2012
Yeah, the physics in Generations sucked. And it's not like there were hard changes that had to be made. Just a few tweaks (spin dash, rolling) would have made all the difference. It shouldn't be difficult. A pair of guys in a basement could have, and indeed have , made a much better physics engine -...

I just tried Cap'n Crunch for the first time. I've always been suspicious of this cereal. "Super crunchy" is not a "flavor".
I liked it, though. It kinda tastes how I always thought that Rice Krispies ought to taste.

Looks interesting to me, in a high hopes/low expectations kind of way. But I guess it's hard not to be cynical about these things.

Krave has been around for a while. I was given a box for free when I moved into uni accomodation last year. I remember not being that impressed. I seem to recall it was nicer dry than it was in milk.
Speaking of milk: whole, semi-skimmed, 1%, or skimmed?

No, I see a disturbing number of online opinions these days claiming that HL2 is a weaker effort. Not weaker, just less interesting. If you're looking for a game that is a well-designed, challenging, single-player narrative then Half-Life 2 is the game for you. If you're looking for a game that tot...

If anybody still hasn't played Portal, I have 2 gift copies on Steam that are just gathering virtual dust. I think Steam even works on the PS3 now? Valve has credited my Steam account with a whopping 5 copies of Portal over the years. One I bought stand-alone, one as part of the Orange Box, one as a...

The fact that SEGA is playing coy about episode 2 in the same way as the first one is not encouraging.

I just finished Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I've been holding back a lot of thoughts, so forgive me if I just splurge for a while. --- The game is really good! Definitely worth checking out if you're into the stealth genre. Obviously, it's not as groundbreaking as the first game, but this is a refine...
