Re: Merry Christmas, you heartless bastards

I got The Walking Dead, which I'm told is good. Nothing Sonic related though. Aren't we overdue for another main series entry by now? Not that I'm complaining if they're taking their time. I wish more people would post in the "what are you playing?" thread! I have to stop myself from doing it every ...

Re: What are the good podcasts?

The 5by5 network is kind of huge among nerds right now. It tends to focus on geek interests, particularly centred around Apple, but they have been trying to broaden a little lately. I really like Hypercritical , which occasionally covers video games, but it's about to end its run. I think there are ...

Re: "The Same Old Blues" or "A Study in Scarlet"

I think it's safe to say that the world breathed a sigh of relief today. Legalizing pot and gay marriage is awesome. I'm a little bummed out that the death penalty won't be abolished in California, though. I thought that was an easy sell, but then again I have noticed that people in the US have very...

Re: Star Wars Episode 7

I was just thinking it's interesting how similar Star Wars and Sonic the hedgehog are in terms of their history/declining quality. They both started out being phenomenal then slowly got worse over time and their respective fans go on and on about the "glory days" of the series. Though in my opinion...

Re: Sonic Jump (iOS)

I've been playing it a little. The graphics really look excellent on the iPad retina display, both the hand-drawn "cutscenes" and the levels themselves. The music is pretty catchy too. The design concept is nothing special - I actually came up with a very similar idea for a game myself when I was ve...

The onboard flash is going to be much faster than any external hard drive option, though. Are there external SSD units? Seems like those are a whole lot like flash memory. The internal ones seem to improve PlayStation 3 performance dramatically in some cases: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit...

Re: Wii U Launch

Iwata did an interview/teardown with the Wii U hardware team. Overall I was impressed. I agree with pretty much all the design decisions they discussed, including holding off releasing an HD console until this year. Their refined, conservative approach to hardware is a stark contrast to the other h...

Re: Say it. Say it!!

I say "Gee Aych Zee", making it the only case where I regularly use the American letter "zee". Sorry to let down the team, but it really does sound much better.

I like Jizz, though. One syllable is a big improvement!

Re: Wii U Launch

I think there are a decent number of people out there who want to buy a self-contained package and don't want to really have to deal with external storage themselves. Yeah, this too. Most people don't want to deal with bulky external hard drives in their living room, or swapping around SD cards tha...

Re: Wii U Launch

The onboard flash is going to be much faster than any external hard drive option, though. It might not make enough difference to justify the price for most people, but I'm sure there's a hardcore fanbase that's willing to pay for it.

Re: Wii U Launch

I think they made the right choice with onboard flash memory, but I feel like Nintendo is missing a trick here, as I'm sure there are people who would pay extra for a model with 64 gigs.

Re: Wii U Launch

I think the Wii U and its launch lineup look pretty solid. I'm not sure how great a launch ambassador Bayonetta is - I feel like she's a little bit too incongruous with Nintendo's image and target audience for this to be anything more than an alliance of convenience - but I would agree that Nintendo...

Re: The GHZ featured in TSSZ Fan Friday

I recently showed off Sonic Adventure to someone who had never played a Sonic game before. The game design is remarkably solid for its time, and the aesthetics work well too, but by god the cutscenes! They have all the depth of finger puppets and the game makes you watch them multiple times! To my s...

Re: What are you playing today?

I've been playing Tribes: Ascend! I'd never heard of the Tribes series before, but apparently it's been around since 1998. This iteration is a free-to-play, class-based, team-based, competitive FPS. The emphasis is on capture-the-flag gameplay. If the above description makes you think it's set up to...

Re: Next Smash Bros. games to be made by Namco Bandai

Sakurai apparently has this to say about the Smash Bros. roster: "In terms of quantity, we've probably already reached the limit of what's feasible. I think a change of direction may be what's needed." Personally I'd be happy with a subset of the Brawl characters and heavy refinement of the gameplay...

Re: Next Smash Bros. games to be made by Namco Bandai

I think people assume these outside developers have way more influence on the finished project than they actually do. I hope you're right! Although I would agree that a lot of the problems in Brawl probably came from Sakurai himself. I just trust him more than I do the Tekken team. I would be much ...

Re: Next Smash Bros. games to be made by Namco Bandai

My first hope was that it had gone to the Tales team, because the fighting engine in Abyss got a lot of things right and was similar to the one in Smash Bros. in many ways. Of course, I haven't played a Tales game since Abyss, so maybe the series is now in the hands of idiots (watching YouTube video...

I don't see it on iTunes (I'm using an iPad). I'm guessing it's region locked. Do you have a direct link to the iTunes page?
