Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
I'm not willing to let Sonic Team off the hook like that, just to say "things are getting better," or "they don't have the talent." This is one of Sega's most important divisions working on one of their most important franchises, they should have the talent. It might not be shining through because ...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
I've always thought that there were multiple directions they could take the series. I think there's room for both twitchy, reaction-based platforming and slower-paced, open-ended environments. Whether they would be better off merged together or segregated into their own games, I don't know. I think ...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
What's that supposed to mean? I like Adventure 1 a lot - the level design does a great job of translating what was fun about the early games into three dimensions. It also laid down the fundamentals for every 3D Sonic game since then. Sonic Adventure 2 cherry-picked the best ideas from SA1 and deve...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
The name "Sonic Excursion" is awful, but then again so is "Sonic Colours" so it strikes me as plausible. Having characters talk to each other during gameplay doesn't really bother me, and Sonic Team have been pretty good at providing ways to disable it as well, so I'm not too worried about that. I t...

Bear in mind that we're going through a recession, etc. Don't give up on the "paying for things" business model entirely.I guess I may be a minority in how I approach buying stuff.

Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes
Obviously I'd prefer to see nothing but high quality original games come out of Sonic Team, but since that's unlikely, these iOS ports are relatively inoffensive.

Re: Sega release trailer for.. Sonic CD? What?
My general opinion of the iOS Sonic CD was that it was mostly fine. Nothing in it was a deal breaker, although there were plenty of annoyances - the biggest one for me, aside from dodgy touch controls, was the inability to play music from another app over the game's audio. Super Hexagon does this to...

Re: Wii U Launch
Yeah it's not quite the disaster that people have been making out. It's also not terribly relevant to gamers - Nintendo has been the underdog in the past, but it hasn't put them out of business or stopped them making games. What's a little more concerning for me is that last-gen consoles outsold the...

Re: Dinsey's Wreck-It Ralph: A love-letter to videogames
I saw it on the UK's opening weekend (lots of kids in the audience). I liked it a lot. I had a similar reaction to Crowbar vis-a-vis the heart-tearing moment, although I would also add the shots of Vanellope being trapped . There were a few problems, mainly the overreliance on the movie's internal l...

Re: Journey
Jenova Chen explains how and why he created Journey. (Contains spoilers) I was pleased to discover that the inspiration for the game mostly came from MMOs. Throughout this thread, people have speculated that the game's primary theme was "discovery". I really didn't like that idea, for two reasons: ...

Re: Wii U Launch
I think the trend with the Mario games has been more of a progression from chaotic free-form level design towards smaller, tightly controlled stages. But yes, I would like to see this trend reversed. Ideally I'd want to see the series move back to a more free-form style, but I think another Galaxy-l...

Re: Freedom Planet = Sonic + Sparkster + Gunstar Heroes?
The problem I had with the game's art is that it feels like it's pandering. Maybe the artist just really enjoys drawing terrible anime catgirls or whatever, but it happens to align with the very specific tastes of the manchild demographic. The description "Megaman, Sonic, and Gunstar Heroes" makes i...

Re: Freedom Planet = Sonic + Sparkster + Gunstar Heroes?
It's more like gateway intolerance. I mean come on, who hasn't "experimented" with hating a furry or two? I see it as more like a venn diagram. There are furries, and there are terrible people - there just happens to be a lot of overlap. By tolerating the "bad eggs" in the furry community (the paed...

Hi there. I'm a sheltered white male.
Allow me to tell you about modern racism, and how it relates to anime dog tits.

Poking fun at my desire to look at anime dog tits is a violation of my civil liberties and essentially a form of racial prejudice.

I would be more excited for a Majora's Mask or even an Ocarina of Time HD remake. Wind Waker has the most timeless visuals of all the 3D Zeldas already.
I will be interested to see what other changes they'll make, though.

Re: Freedom Planet = Sonic + Sparkster + Gunstar Heroes?
I don't think these guys quite get stretch goals. "We pledge to spend more money on programmers" and "Character you've never heard of" are not exactly world-beating incentives. It looks like a semi-competent platformer with a whole lot of added furry. Why am I not surprised it has amassed over $12,0...

Pokemon has this weird cargo cult thing going on. Two versions, because it worked in 1998! More Pokemon, because the roster isn't bloated enough yet! Three elemental starters, because how else could they possibly start the game?

Well I guess since this is the official navel-gazing thread... I came into this forum pretty late, so a lot of the in-jokes and references go over my head. I did get to see a few (Passepartout was one of my favourites). I get the impression I'm one of the youngest people here, which at 22 is sort of...

Re: What are you playing today?
Today I finished Spec Ops: The Line . I had been trying to catch this on a Steam sale for a while, and once I got a bit of a break from holiday shenanigans, I devoured it in about 2 days. One of the problems I have with video game culture is its lack of self-awareness. The modern warfare shooter gen...
