Re: Sonic 2018

I think the only reason Sonic the Fighters ever had a home release was because the other Model 1 fighters were receiving them around the same time as part of the Sega Ages 2500 series. Presumably StF would've been part of that as well were it not for Iizuka or such deciding to sweeten the pot with o...

Re: Sonic 2018

The whole "trackball" excuse is a weak one; several famous trackball-controlled arcade games had well-received home ports with non-trackball controls, such as Missile Command and Marble Madness. It's clearly a case of not owning up to not wanting to make a proprietary System 32 emulator (which hasn'...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

Character coming out a game was present in both the Mario and Mega Man OVAs, but the Mario one was a little more ambiguous with the brothers entering Peach's kingdom via pipes natch. The Mega Man OVA I think was funded by Japan's council of tourism because it was a blatant travelogue. I think Ninten...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

IMDb seems to feature only voice- and/or mocap actors for video games, or at least the people who edit the site tend to prioritize them. And, yeah, like I said: the animation for Shadow was adequate absent everything else. '06 on the other hand was full of stilted movements for the characters as far...

Image

oh...

(But in seriousness, as bad as Shadow was in, in addition to other many, many respects, its story scenes, I do rather like the stretch and squash featured therein. Wonder if that was due to him.)

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

Oh yeah, totally forgot Carrey is (or maybe was; dunno if he recanted) an anti-vaxxer. So he might actually be too evil to play eggman. Though it might explain how they can afford him. Also, someone should superimpose eggman's head into that scene in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where Carre...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

Alrighty then.

Carrey can certainly do dangerous loony manchild well, but he's a tad on the svelte side for Eggman however. Will they stick him in a fatsuit, I wonder.

If I had any editing skills and the wherewithal I'd edit Carrey's famous soundbites into preexisting Eggman video.

I'm reticent to criticize Cream on account I'm not now or every was a little girl. I'm guessing she failed to capture that intended audience, or even any peripheral audience aside from those unsavory enough to put even Sega off their lunch.

Re: Hirokazu Yasuhara on social media (kind of)

OK, even in retrospect that kind of still comes off as whiny entitlement, and I wouldn't put it past Burton to leverage internet fame into something otherwise impossible like official remasters. But yegads, his comments section.

Re: Hirokazu Yasuhara on social media (kind of)

https://youtu.be/y4Wgqqi5uj8 Jon Burton posted some of the original Sonic R maps on his video. I wish he'd just straight-up upload these as image files somewhere. He's obviously drip-feeding us these things for the sake of generating internet fame, and that's entirely his prerogative; I'm grateful t...

Re: Sonic in Mario the Fighters

I sincerely doubt Nintendo would ever deign to make more than a single play style representative from a third-party brand. A reskin/clone is about as much as you can hope for here, and be thankful for even that much. Also, Seeing as only one of Sonic's moves superficially resembles a SB move but sti...

Re: Sonic in Mario the Fighters

Sonic's Echo Fighter could've easily been Metal Sonic, or even Knuckles himself. Knuckles even already has a canonical Homing Attack equivalent in Maximum Heat Knuckles Attack; higher charge up, but hits multiple targets. As it is, Knuckles as an Assist Trophy would be little more than a copy of Kir...

Re: Everybody Super Sonic failing... (Team Sonic Racing)

That's a salient inquiry. Who is Shadow's father, Gerald or Black Doom? Both were integral in his birth, but neither raised him. Tails, too, is presumably sans progenitors and thus his gibe comes from a place of empathy for Shadow's lamentations. However, in questioning the dynamics of non-heteronor...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

Well, yeah, if it's going to be a bastardization, then better to be the most batshit crazy bastardization it can be. The Super Mario Bros. movie is like some funhouse mirror reflection of a renowned property with a patina that could only come from that particular era. Lord knows if Illumination's pr...

So apparently there'll be three classes: speed, power, & technique. Which I guess are equivalents to sprint, heavy, & handling found in MK and such? So no Mario/Crash all-rounder types, then? Seems odd to pare down what seems already bog-standard.

Re: Everybody Super Sonic failing... (Team Sonic Racing)

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's Eggman in disguise. He's already tried that already in one racing which was relatively unpopular, so maybe Sonic Team / Sumo feels that nobody would really pipe up about them repeating that. Nah, it's totally Sega Chan™ under coercion from the new big villai...

I'll watch these when they're collated in some other format. Seeing "reaction" videos from ten-year-old fetuses in the recommendation bar isn't something I particularly need in my life.

Re: Revenge of the nerds

It's interesting that the bolo effect was the focal mechanic for Chaotix, since it's easily one of the worst things about it. Pity too as the rubber band physics are really fun on its own and won't likely ever be revisited. I can see an elemental barrier based on it being the best of both worlds; al...

So I guess that Rocket Metal being built and sent on reconnaissance by Tails was entirely fan bunkum?

Also, yet more proof Fang is unaffiliated with Bark and Bean, whose involvement was above the board.

I was feeling particularly skinflinty and had the idea of searching for "open source" rather than "free" since there aren't big enough quotation marks for the latter for gaming nowadays. The Game Gear games have been given a once-over and some interesting tid bits have come up. https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Blast_manuals Turns out I was right about the CEs being able to fragment into yet more CEs: A sudden dazzling light shone on Sonic. When Sonic woke up from the excessive glar...
