Re: What if there was a new American Sonic toon?

The drop in animation quality for Sonic X is likely explained by the fact it was originally intended to be 26 episodes long (if I remember right). Somewhere down the line they doubled that, but they probably didn't have the budget for another 26 so they stretched it fairly thin.

Re: What if there was a new American Sonic toon?

Some would argue that Sonic X was American-made; at least series 2. I don't think it ever aired in Japan. 4KIDS has paid for additional episodes of Ultimate Muscle in the past, so it's not out of their league to buy more Sonic X. I could see a Teen-Titans-styled Sonic, though. Sort of angular and lo...

Wow, way to be a colossal asshole. Holy shit . Did I break some kind of forum taboo? No, you just look like an asshole. I guess it's just the difference between the jaded, crotchety old gamers on this forum who are "Back in My Day"ing about Sonic 1 and... well, normal human beings. "Zomg, it doesn'...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP4reIH1LhA ... That music. Were they trying to recreate the Sonic 2 boss theme and just failed miserably, or were they trying to make a new one but had absolutely no creativity? That music is so bad that I automatically hate this game and everyone who has even looked...

Meteor Herd and Mad Space, respectively, took me over 30 minutes my first time too. I think Mad Space actually took me closer to an hour my first time.

Hybird's, maybe, because to me, Jak & Daxter always felt more like: http://i26.tinypic.com/2prigic.gif Like you were just moving from hub to hub on a relatively linear pathway. Sort of like how in Mario 64 you'd get a key that'd move you to the next floor of the castle where a new set of levels woul...

Re: Question about Sonic CD/NiGHTS

*stuff* I can see what you mean (and agree with you on the OVA Sonic being the best in character. Can't say the same for Sonic X though. And Shadow's story was just far too lol to be taken seriously). But I was only referring to the graphical style and the atmosphere of the games and the levels, no...

Re: Sonic level design, a discussion.

I too think a free-roaming Sonic game would work, but for me, I always thought it would be better to keep the "action stage/adventure field" distinction, but just remove the titlecards/loading screens. Treat action stages more like "Roads" to another adventure field. Let's say you're at Adventure Fi...

Re: Question about Sonic CD/NiGHTS

Walking on the wild side is great when it's done properly . However, Sonicteam seems to make it a bad habit of giving people the opposite of what they want ("WE WANT LESS CHARACTERS STEALING THE SPOTLIGHT!" "Okay! Our next Sonic game will have 12 playable characters!"). Most Sonic game scripts - esp...

Re: Question about Sonic CD/NiGHTS

I am the exact opposite. SA2, Shadow, and Sonic 2k6 all take themselves way, way, way too seriously. They are games that try and create serious and epic dramas - but it's all overshadowed, to me, by the fact I'm looking at a 3ft tall talking hedgehog who's head is bigger than most toddlers. Oh no a...

Re: Sonic level design, a discussion.

One aspect people seem to neglect about Sonic 2k6, as the game is so shit, is that it actually features perhaps the best attempt at translating the alternate-route-heavy level design in to 3D. Most of the better levels in the game feature at least two or three ways of getting to the next major set p...

Re: Question about Sonic CD/NiGHTS

Both extremes are dumb and Naka's Quality Control failing doesn't explain why 2/3rds of Sonic Adventure 2 isn't very good.

Re: Question about Sonic CD/NiGHTS

I'm glad somebody else likes the art direction in Halo 3. Everybody's so quick to jump out and call it a generic whatever that they miss the finer details. Yeah it's a space marine against invading aliens and we've seen that a hundred times, but the art direction used in conjuction with that concept...

Re: NiGHTS into Dreams is coming to the PS2

I think Atlus has expressed interest in bringing Mother 3 over, but as I said on another forum, Nintendo is oddly protective of their properties. Atlus also wished to bring over Densetsu No Stafy as the story goes, and Nintendo blocked them - despite having no logical reason to (Stafy contains no co...

Re: NiGHTS into Dreams is coming to the PS2

http://www.gamekult.com/video/8691001/ Video. Who wants to start harassing Atlus to bring this to the states? If Sega of America isn't going to do it (and if they were, you'd think they would have announced it by now), Atlus seems to be the defacto "publish games that nobody else will publish becaus...

Re: What Sonic game is this?

I always thought Heroes would've worked better if you could've only picked one buddy to bring with you in to a level and then you tag team it.

Sort of like Sonic Advance 3, but without the "buddy AI is completely worthless and the concept is poorly implemented".

Re: What Sonic game is this?

Sonic Adventure International was still plagued with collision detection issues and tons of animation bugs, etc. The additional time helped polish the game up a little bit, I'll agree - better camera angles, fixing the most major flaws; but none of what was fixed was related to level design and ther...

Re: What Sonic game is this?

I dunno about Heroes having unique architecture. It may not have repeated as much as you say Shadow does, but a lot of levels in Heroes definitely had the "It's a good thing you like this part of the level because we're going to copy and paste it 2 more times later on." And it wasn't helped by the f...

Re: What Sonic game is this?

But the only flaws I had with the new Sonic games were the fact that they were so scripted. All the fastest and coolest moments in them were moments you had no control over. Sonic GL had an opportunity to avoid that. Even the test level looked like it was doing more with the gameplay flow than the o...

Re: What Sonic game is this?

Sonic GL . Fangame that ultimately wound up cancelled, but inspired awe in the minds of the many, many idiots in the fandom who didn't realize how it encapsulated everything that was wrong with the 3D Sonic games. Honestly, if I had to pick a fangame to toss in there, there were far, far better pic...
