HL2 changed my perception of shooters -- that is, it showed me a shooter could be good , and not just good, but great . Everything Valve has made since is essentially derivative of HL2 but focused to a particular genre. Portal is a puzzle game, TF2 is an online shooter, L4D is a survival game, but H...

I doubt the success rate for submitting a graphic novel, or any book, to a publisher is high, but if it doesn't cost you anything, there's no reason not to try! If you're lucky, the publisher may give you criticism, tell you what they are looking for, and explain how you might be able to adapt your ...

The easiest way to get it published would be to put it up online somewhere, preferably your own website. You might turn to one of numerous webcomic hosts for that. I have no idea how you could make money off this method (ads, I guess?), but it might be useful to be able to give interested parties a ...

My brother and my father both love natto. I'll ... eat it, but not happily. Umeboshi by itself is too much, but it's great in onigiri. Tuna salad sushi is the best sushi, followed closely by kappamaki. The raw fish stuff is great so long as you've got the right condiments, basically just soy sauce a...

On the Bioware front, Mass Effect 2 is very good -- there are notable flaws, but you'll have a good time. Dragon Age Origins is significantly more flawed. My major problem with it was the difficulty of combat -- Normal is too hard and Easy is too easy. I found myself running out of potions constantl...

Morrowind's real complex, which is probably why its proponents are so attached to it and why it's hard to get into. I haven't played Skyrim yet (I really want to play it on PC but don't have one), but I imagine gameplay's more streamlined without losing the depth that made Morrowind such a milestone.

I imagine that the movie will be focusing on the Bat's struggle as a wanted murderer and the public's perception of him. Bane makes for a great supplement to this conflict, particularly if they play up the Ra's connection. If I thought he was going to dominate the film a la Joker, I might share your...

That's an unfortunate perception generated by Batman & Robin and assisted by the stereotype of burly dudes being uneducated thugs. A quick scan of the Wiki article shows that comic-verse Bane makes an excellent antagonist for the Nolan-verse: besides being physically superior to Bats, he's a capable...

1) An effective boycott could cause short-term damage, but enough pressure from fans can break a company before it comes to that -- as happened when Jerry Siegel got the story of his arduous, decades-long legal battle with DC (National) over Superman recognized in the media in the 70's. 2) Absolutel...

Bissette's follow-up post , for those who care. Mostly responsive to arguments made by irate fans and apathetic bloggers/journalists, causing the article to retread a lot of ground. (Also, my mistake: Bissette is not a co-creator of Swamp Thing, but his name is synonymous with the character.) Zeta,...

That was my first thought too, but realize that Kirby was being actively screwed by Marvel throughout his career. He worked for them on three separate occasions (creating Captain America in the 40's, the rest of the characters mentioned above in the 60's, and returning briefly in the 70's) and left ...

Let's boycott Marvel!
If you're planning on seeing Captain America, checking out the latest X-Men issue, or purchasing a Fantastic Four omnibus, consider this: The estate of Jack "The King" Kirby , the man who co-created nearly every iconic Marvel character you can think of and helped build Western comics as both an indu...
