Re: Revenge of the nerds

For some reason, I've always had the impression that Tails Adventures takes place way before Sonic ever met Tails. Like, years before the events of Sonic 2. I suppose if you consider Sonic CD to take place between Sonic 1 and 2, then Tails Adventure could still take place before Tails and Sonic fir...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

I suppose I can rationalize 8bit S2 happening after S&K if the mecha Sonic is some prototype that escaped of its own volition and happened upon a CE. I'm not as fixated on release dates and spindashes as you're making me out to be, however it is weird to think of a game entitled "Sonic 2" would happ...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Well, not just Chaos but SegaSonic Arcade, Sonic CD, the DiC-centric titles(if they count at all) and Cosmo Fighter were all released between MD S2 and S3 also. (And I was only citing TT as a similar instance) And, yes, I do agree they all should be pushed aside to have the Death Egg arc make sense ...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

I think you misunderstand. I mean the events of S2, the DE crashing onto AI, would leave them and Knuckles in an unresolved state for too long if all those '93 games were to happen in the interim. Like, Knuckles would have absolutely no idea Eggman or Sonic even existed, and just left pondering the ...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

If Bean is indeed Bin's (adopted?) son, then Dynamite Düx is part of the greater canon, yes? The intro implies interdimensional shenanigans, whether it's the arcade or MS version. Which is canonical, if not somehow both, to Sonic is anyone's guess. And, yeah, S2 8bit is even more irreconcilable than...

Re: Concept Art of Ray, Mighty, Vector and Sonic Manga

Gotta love Elwood!Vector there.

Interesting that Anton was redigned by Sonic Team (Hoshino?) as well.

I conjecture that these are lost, otherwise their absence from the recent ballyhooed artbook is utterly mystifying. Surely it wasn't to make room for screenshots and stock renders.

Re: Hirokazu Yasuhara on social media (kind of)

https://youtu.be/J-3avMBqJ9s It completely slipped my mind that this was going to be uploaded to youtube. Judging by the low number of views, I may not be alone. Must've been lost in the Mania hype. Just as well, however, as the whole thing goes from comprehensive to heady philosophy in no time flat...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

If we are to consider StF and the GG games as canon, Sonic sojourns to South Island frequently. Drift 1 and G Sonic in particular explicitly feature the GHZ, the latter being at the time the last proper Classic Sonic game. Which only raises the question of why Tails doesn't recognize the GHZ if he r...

Re: OH YES Sonic Mania (Spoiler free thread)

It was on my android via the dedicated app. So I dunno how a Chrome filter would've helped.

I know Sega is trying to be laissez-faire towards fan content, but they ought to crack down on this sort of shit.

Christ, had the whole boss roster spoiled by a YouTube thumbnail. Fuck you, Prosofiagaming, you shitheel.

So yeah, dunno how you'd avoid something like that, but heads-up all the same.

Re: Get Over Here!; or, Swing, You Sinners!

Phantom 2040 for the SNES/Gen. It's based on the hella-long running comic series, specifically the animated adaptation with characters designed by Peter Chung of Aeon Flux and Rugrats fame. Unlike most Batman and Spider-Man games which feature grapple ropes, the physics here are a step above (from ...

Re: Sonic Tricks (gifs!)

There're pushable stones in Angle Island and Sandopolis (making for one of the more involved puzzle elements of the clasic era) and pushable spikes in Flying Battery. Also, quite a few pushable rocks and springs in Tails Adventures, which can also be picked up with the Mega Glove equipped. Pushable ...

Re: Sonic Tricks (gifs!)

I went to verify and found out this bug(?) isn't exclusive to one particular Yadorin; it's just the placement of a particular one (the second in act 2 if you're inclined to care) that caused me to roll into it a just the right wrong time. It damages any Yadorin, too, if you roll into it at the last ...

Re: GHZ Museum/Encyclopedia fact checking & ect. thread

It never before occurred to me that the badniks in Greg Martin's 8-bit Sonic 2 art aren't in the game at all! http://info.sonicretro.org/images/thumb/6/68/SSS_SONICH_.png/800px-SSS_SONICH_.png There's at least a precedent with the wasps in Beeton and Stinger, but no such thing in the game itself. Wh...

Re: Sonic Tricks (gifs!)

I think his hit box is on backwards, so when you roll into his head you take damage (and potentially get knocked back into the nearest pit). Rolling into his backside is safe, if I remember correctly.

Get Over Here!; or, Swing, You Sinners!

Y'know, grapple rope games (or whatever you call 'em). Seems high time this vaguely defined genre had its own dedicated thread. Super Grapple Duck is a little gem I found via Game Maker's Toolkit's GameJam. It's an arcade style single-screen clear-'em-up wherein you control a duck by clicking a poin...

Re: Archie Sonic is probably dead

https://mobile.twitter.com/IDWPublishing/status/888536084472352770 IDW is picking up the reins. The only thing of theirs I've read was the Jurassic Park comics. They were terrible. They say they're gonna recruit as many Archie Sonic staff as possible. Hopefully that means more Tyson Hesse and Diana ...

The masculine voice seems to indicate* it's male, but the mask could contain a voice modulator, so the "stolen OC" angle could still apply. But somehow it occurred to me this could be a bitter jaded Ray the Flying Squirrel and once the mask is off you're rebuked with a petulant high squeaky voice. *...

I wonder if their fully embracing this... approach has anything to do with Mania targeting different market shares. Like no more half-measures now they are diversifying. That "Classic Sonic from another dimension" thing that's been popping up lately is sounding more and more appealing on a personal ...

Re: Archie Sonic is probably dead

As much as I disliked the lingering influence of DiC's contributions, I do find myself having pangs of sympathy for all those people who been invested in those characters. But on the other hand, they've had a much longer run than any supporting character of a licensed property had any right to. Imag...

It's dead, Jim.

Hopefully this will lead to a hard reboot. Something economical, streamlined and focused on rollicking adventures. Something the comic should've been from the start.

Tabula rasa.
