Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes
And now we all dwell in this ever-deepening pit of regressive, nihilistic "retro" shit and pretend to like it. As if we asked for it. We did ask for it. It's our fault. Sad, but true. I hesitate to completely blame the people they keep listening to though; they don't keep making these terrible games.

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
Unleashed is the worst, though. It doesn't help that it follows on the heels of a legitimately hard boss and the most goddamn draining level ever. Egg Dragoon isn't particularly hard, it's just pointlessly drawn out with that old "you can't hurt me until I leave my glowing green crotch in your reac...

Addendum: I did still like most of Moonlit Mansion and Redhot Ride in hindsight, but jesus in heaven, those last 2 zones are hardcore fun-killing bullshit.

Re: What are you playing today?
Lest we forget the first one . I am... bitterly disappointed with ATS. About halfway through the game, everything begins gradually going to crap. Any sense of climactic buildup (something BTS did extremely well) is thrown out the window, and there doesn't seem to be a time-based ending anymore like ...

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
Just obliterated ? I'd call it reducing the Xbone and Microsoft to a fine dust in the wind. When they spelled out their used game stance (with bullet points!) they had the audience in fucking rapture! And then they posted this clip just to be extra mean. I'm extremely impressed. Sony's marketing guy...

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
MS also reminded us that Crimson Dragon (from the Panzer Dragoon producer) still existed... by showing the trailer without any audio, nonchalantly moving on as if that didn't just happen, and then having the same thing happen to Battlefield 4's presentation followed by 30 awkward seconds of trying t...

Re: Sonic Lost World - Nintendo Exclusive
Gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7nweiUGh-g I was not expecting much, but I am still underwhelmed. The pacing of the first stage seems erratic, copying Super Mario Galaxy's dreadful approach of segmenting the stage into little planetoids. You are railroaded by speed boosters, then sh...

The impression I was left with was "let's drag Xtreme out of the closet and see how shamelessly derivative we can be while we're at it". Not particularly inspiring.

Did you catch this? It's a slightly bigger problem than reaction rates or emotional states being monitored. Valve is conducting biofeedback input experiments too, but as far as we know they aren't considering throwing in with overprotective copyright holders.

"Microsoft’s new Xbox meets the definition of a surveillance device under some Australian laws". I take it this contraption is not likely to face a warm reception by their government.

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
There was a news report I don't know how many months ago that MS was filing a patent for an advanced camera apparatus, which had tracking capabilites of that sort and (IIRC) would collect data based on detected movement. Glad to see nobody over there had the foresight to think better of this in all ...

Re: Mo' hardware, mo' problems
Henceforth, i'm calling this thing the DudeBro TVBox. Those are, after all, the only qualities Microsoft wanted to present about this machine to the uninitiated, right? Or are they trying to tell everyone they're a cable company now? Seriously? I'm laughing at this mess, but I know i'd be doing just...

It's been gone since the (highly unsustainable) wiki was deleted. Browse this instead. Gibbon had it current up to Unleashed.

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
This proto footage from SA made me really sad. Why can't sonic games have big open levels with platforming to explore?! Why can't we have great playgrounds to roll around in and discover secrets?? Budget, time, and what I affectionately refer to as "give-a-damn". In 1998, they only had so much of t...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
It's true that searching for the red rings was 100% optional but upon collecting them you unlocked the ability to transform into super sonic in-stage, something that had never been possible in a 3d outing before! Surely that should be enough motivation to engage in a fun activity? The Super Sonic B...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
I didn't care about the red rings. Too bad for them.
If they are incapable of making a level "expansive" without needing to facilitate it with an easter egg hunt, that's their issue.

(And it's the kind of variety fans actually want If it's going to be like Colors, I sure don't! One act takes 2 minutes to clear, the next a 30 second gimmick, the one after that 4-5 minutes, or any combination thereof in aribtrary order. There was no consistency, just 6 unskippable levels of rando...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
If anything they could have two game series, one with classic gameplay and one in the modern style. Which is exactly the mentality they've been operating under for the better part of the decade, assuming that they can please everybody with zero compromise. It doesn't work. Splintering your customer...

M2's is out. It's an emulator, albeit a crummy one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8ewJsCIfxE <-- direct video capture http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjmPAqNMIIY <-- longer, but handcam I don't know what audio setting these clips were using (prolly whatever the default is), but it sucks. Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
The characters are really poorly handled. Sonic comes across as an over excited pre-teen suffering from ADD. And an unrepentant, unlikeable asshole at that. Maybe half of it is the fault of the writers, but i'd rather have Jason Griffith's non-acting back than listen to another second of Roger Crai...

Re: Sonic 1.... in 3D
M2's version is part of a larger series of 3DS ports, so it probably comes down to when Sega contracted them compared to Taxman and Stealth. Still disappointing, and bound to conflict with future re-releases if M2 doesn't get the 3DS ones to themselves.

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Sonic Unleashed team was staffed by people fresh from University. Obviously this one example cannot be used to discredit the idea of hiring younger developers, but it again highlight Sega's recruitment woes. That reminds me, Yoshihisa Hashimoto (the fairly enthusi...

Re: Sonic 1.... in 3D
I'm led to believe this is some sort of emulation, from the screenshot of the stage select. Good luck rigging up a Genesis ROM with native widescreen! Letterboxing it is perfectly fine by me, but you'd think based on M2's previous ports , they'd have come up with some kind of nice eye candy for the ...

Wow, that sure is a problem with the physics >_>Rob-Bert wrote:I still wonder if they deliberately designed the stages that way so they wouldn't have to actually work on refining the physics. Sonic doesn't even ball up when he jumps anymore.
