I ate cereal for breakfast this morning.
And for dinner tonight.
And for breakfast yesterday morning.
And for dinner last night.

I love cereal.

I have a couple of recurring dreams... Every semester I have the same "I haven't shown up for a class I'm supposed to take for months, and it's now past the drop date" dream as NT. I'm a fanatical runner, no doubt as a result of playing Sonic games during my formative years. My most common dream is ...

I have very fond memories of Burning Rangers. Like others have said, the controls are great. "Floaty" is the right word, I think, and it was perfectly natural to use the jet packs to basically fly through straight hallways. I can't remember whether I tracked down all the survivors. I know I didn't g...

Merely speculating, but cockroaches have probably been around tormenting even pre-human ancestors (and probably pre-mammal), which may have been less able to club the nightmarish creatures. Humans may not have intellectually understood bacteria until disturbingly recently, but it's a winning genetic...

Cockroaches have been along for the entire span of human evolution; mosquitoes (the annoying/ dangerous kind) came along to pester us <a href="http://www.johnhawks.net/weblog/reviews/genetics/disease/anopheles_gambiae_evolution_ayala_2005.w">after we'd invented agriculture</a>. Every summer the midw...

You answered your own question about which cruel twist of evolution has led to the human fear of roaches. The little bastards aren't terribly clean, so it's a winning strategy to avoid them. Flight is less costly than fight, as Silv's anecdote aptly illustrates. The masses aren't nutless, rather, th...

I was being sarcastic in anticipation of some ill-conceived idea for a petition to congress, which I'm sure exists on the Internets already. Writing representatives, I think, is largely a waste of effort, but there are positive things one can do to defend free speech. Joining the ACLU or EFF and act...

Rockstar deserves no sympathy because they're exploiting the anti-censorship brigade to promote their awful game. If it were the U.S. government threatening to ban the game, it would be worth protesting. But since Rockstar has no natural right to have their game supported by any console maker, I hop...

Something told me to look around the antique NEC's hard drive for source code. I found the BASIC source files to the program that was giving me trouble stuck in a temporary folder (evidently the definition of "temporary" includes periods from 1988 to 2007) Problem solved!

I have a 3rd part VGA box I could sell you, but it's at my apartment, and I won't be there until August. If you still need it then, I'll let it go for a pittance and whatever shipping to Brazil requires.

EXCELLENT FIND. I'm working for a Japanese company (in Ohio, naturally) this summer. Some of the projects it does involve updating factory automation programs for ancient hardware to slightly-less-ancient hardware. When I started, the only means of doing this was using a Japanese NEC PC9801VM (from ...

I think Sonic Adventure was a pretty great game with some weird, unnecessary add-ons. Big and E-102's games were entertaining in their own sense, but really detracted from the overall integrity of the game. Playing as Sonic, Tails, and even Amy was spot-on, and the Knuckles game wasn't too far off b...

Did Sega ever really make any good business decisions after releasing the Mega Drive? As far as I remember the story of Sega, it was a story of continual mis-investments and awkward timing.
