Re: Just sitting here wasting our precious time

Here I thought maybe you'd just saved one. I didn't think they'd all be right there!

I wonder what else is in that folder?

Re: Archie Sonic is probably dead

If Akhalt has gone from a sentient whale to an anthropomophic weirdo, what has happened to the Archie Sonic version of the Emerald Coast orca whale? Do both kinds exist?

Re: Archie Sonic is probably dead

I was only mildly surprised to learn he got his start writing Metroid Other M fanfic. Christ in a bumper car. That's so awful I kind of wish it were true, but it isn't! His Other M series is unrelated to Metroid (I think it's "Other Mobius") and I think he's been writing fanfic in the Sonic fandom ...

Re: Archie Sonic is probably dead

I suspect (I've seen a lot of people suspect this) that Sega might just take the property somewhere else. I've read some stuff that indicates that a lot of the staff would be able to roll right over to a new publisher too, since many of them are freelancers in the first place, though I'd be personal...

What the sandfalls really communicate to me is "here is something we can easily swap out later for a 'good future' variation where we put the water back in."

Re: Ohshima on social media

I am certain I've seen Sonic in that exact same pose before in a "finished" picture, but not with the other animals. Has anyone else seen it before? He might not have been painting. It wasn't in Sonic Screen Saver. Also related to Ohshima on social media, he wished me a happy birthday on Facebook th...

Re: Sonic 2017

For some reason I felt a need to catch some details and watched the video in slow motion. I don't mean to go super analytical on it but it allowed me to notice some stuff that I didn't notice at regular speed (and there's plenty to catch at regular speed..) When jumping, Sonic returns to a base idle...

Re: Peter Moore interview: Moore vs Naka

This was in 2001 or 2002 according to the article, so this is the period following the Dreamcast, when they were trying to find their footing as a 3rd party developer. I have a vague recollection of having heard about that focus group before. Personally, I think presenting the information like that ...

Re: Run back

Stuff like the ability to change the camera angle mentioned in the FAQ really suggested that they'd be making some substantial changes. There was nothing like that in the original, was there?

Re: Sonic VR

The video is gone already! Anybody grab it before it went down? One of those guys in the comments section has the right idea: I really want an answer to that age-old question: what does Sonic see when he spin-jumps? Like is it a spinning nightmare of dizziness or does he just spin so fast that if he...

Here's an article on Blinx that covers a bit more of the "mascot" history, if anyone is interested. (I was!)

Re: Kazuyuki Hoshino Q&A

I'm guessing other artists probably stepped in for some of it, and they probably had other people who did airbrushing, too. This is the first time we've seen any credit given to any of those drawings, isn't it?

Re: Kazuyuki Hoshino Q&A

Man, look how shitty the Kid Robot sculpt of this same pose is by comparison. I thought that maybe it was just an awkward pose when viewed from other angles, but seeing Makino's version that plainly isn't the case.

Re: Kazuyuki Hoshino Q&A

The sculpture was shown in EGM, so I wouldn't say fabled. I assume it also made some rounds in Japanese magazines at the time, too. http://starquail.com/michael/egmv26p102.png (Here's page 2 if you want.) Ohshima posted that picture on Facebook, and kinda gave the impression that the original was go...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

I kind of like the time travel theory. Well, Eggman created Metal Knuckles in Sonic R followed by Mecha Knuckles in Sonic Advance, so perhaps he doesn't regard the Mecha bots as inferior. It really depends on what standards we're using to judge these robots. Obviously Metal Sonic is the fastest (bec...

I don't mean disrespect to Pietepiet, I'm just really curious why he gets a credit in the tweet for an easy screen shot edit but whoever actually drew Metal Sonic doesn't.

Re: GHZ Museum/Encyclopedia fact checking & ect. thread

oh, I was looking at it wrong. I thought that it was tilted 90 degrees and Africa was a very large Australia, with Europe and the Arabian Peninsula being the Indonesian islands. That's what I get for not freezing the animation. It's hard to focus on it when there are robots in front of it spinning t...

Weirdly, the tweet with Sonic smoking was removed, but the image is still up (since that link I posted works). Somebody left a comment (not sure if it was a joke) saying Sonic should not be smoking, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Re: Eguchi Stalker

Unfortunately it's all hand written so you know, not good chances (and a lot of it is cropped out). The one arrow pointing at Sonic while running says that these are his quills, but to "think of it as his hair." The rest of what I can make sense of is all about what color things are and I'll bet the...

Eguchi Stalker

So I've been following Hisashi Eguchi on Twitter. No, not Hisashi Eguchi (江口寿史), famous manga artist, but Hisashi Eguchi (江口寿志), the prolific animator credited as "Chief Key Animator" in Sonic CD's opening and ending. At the time I found him (I had been mistakenly following the other Eguchi for quit...

Re: Hardware Mania

I agree, go PC all the way here. If you've got one already it probably can handle all those games (mine can and it's pretty old) and of course you have that level of backwards compatibility that consoles can't match. Though I think the SA titles on Steam are based on the Gamecube versions (correct?)...

Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes

That's not an error, at least not in porting. Sonic 1 always had that quirk to it.

Now that I think about it I wonder if that's why I felt like the roll was de-emphasized in other games? Rolling was always the sure fire way to keep your speed in Sonic 1 I never really questioned why that was...
