Re: Revenge of the nerds

Probably Sonic Clackers . Neo on Sonic Retro worked that one out . It makes perfect sense given how Sonic & Tails behave in the game. Plus, L & R are interchangeable in Japanese. I think there's a couple of Playstation prototype controllers that have a SERECT button. Whoa. The link to what clackers...

It's like how everyone calls the Chaotix prototype "Sonic Crackers" because that's how it is mis-romanized on the title screen.
Wait, what is it supposed to be?

Well, the trademark has run out. Copyright's another matter. I'm not sure you can get very far with just the trademark without infringing copyright.

Green Hell Zone

Songs recorded from a damaged Sonic 1 cartridge. Most of them are just missing particular channels and are not that interesting, but other ones have gone wrong in stranger ways. Green Hill Zone and Special Stage in particular are really funny. I saw this over on Reddit , where the person who owns i...

Re: Sonic ..Excursion?

Of the games to try and integrate Adventure Fields / Town Stages with regular levels, Adventure was the most successful because the Adventure Fields were fairly compact and easy to navigate, had interesting things to do (like finding the hidden Chao Eggs or the minigames) and even reoccurring chara...

What exactly is wrong with the brick physics in SMAS? I've mostly played SMB1 via SMAS, so I had no idea anything was different.

Re: Star Wars Episode 7

They haven't just announced episode 7, nor just 7, 8, and 9 -- they stated that they intend to make a new one every two to three years. On the one hand, these might actually be good. On the other hand, having no particular end in sight is a quick way to make me stop caring. (Interestingly, this plan...

Pretty much none of the characters in that movie were like in the games. Dee Jay was a villain in the movie, too. I guess they also assumed any black characters had to be villains?

Re: This confuses me too deeply to think of a title

Sonic 3's exclusive tunes are generally weak for that era of the franchise. Mini-boss theme disagrees. Come on! I won't fight you on the Super Sonic loop though. Too bad they didn't try a Yoshi method of adding some kind of overlay to the level music, or even started a Sonic CD-like remix. The prob...

Well the music is consistently Sonic 3 -- that's the Sonic 3 (without S&K) invincibility theme, not the Sonic 2 Super Sonic theme.

Also, back when LttP came out, didn't Nintendo explicitly say it took place about 100 years before the original?

...and having now played through it and gotten all the trinkets, I don't see why "A New Dimension" bills itself as the hardest. The longest, probably. But it isn't even close to Golden Spiral. The long upward part for trinkets right at the beginning looks really hard, but, well, it isn't. It's almos...

Re: What are you playing today?

Weirdness: The level editor includes 2 new music tracks you can use, but SFAICT (having not yet played through the two hard ones) only one of them is actually used in the new levels that come with the game. Also I don't think Souleye has made them available for download anywhere so far. I kind of h...

Re: What are you playing today?

Playing the extra levels in VVVVVV 2.0. Wait, there's a VVVVVV 2.0? Seems to just be an updated version with a bit of extra content from what I can gather online. Is this the case? Yup. The biggest difference is purely internal - the entire game was rewritten in C++ by another guy, allowing it to f...

Playing the extra levels in VVVVVV 2.0. So far I've beaten all of them (with all trinkets) but the two hard ones (A New Dimension, which I haven't really tried beyond an initial look, and Golden Spiral which is just *grueling*). Also, the "How Badly Do You Want It?" trinket in Roadtrip to the Moon c...

Note that "brackets" here is in the British sense, i.e. parentheses. But, I can't say I like rule #3. Not because the original didn't have it, but because it's silly. Consider: If we exclude it, what's going on is that we have a map from Wikipedia pages to Wikipedia pages, and we turn this into a di...
