Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Hubs in Sonic Unleashed are generally very small. A good comparison I've come up with is to imagine that first area in Station Square in front of the train station, where you enter Speed Highway and Twinkle Park. Most towns in Sonic Unleashed are that size, save for Shamar and Spagonia. Both are pla...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Given that the designer of Unleashed apparently is listening to the fans more than any of the prior producers for the past failures has, we could ask him to make Sonic run a bit slower, and maybe a bit more momentum-based? That'd handle the whole "inhuman distance" issue that's actually CAUSING all...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I don't think so because the files took up a lot of space on the VMU. Some of them did. Others didn't. Like the unlockable themes in SA2? Already on the disc. Holiday events in SA1? Already on the disc. I think some of the Kart tracks were already on the disc, too, but stuff like racing as Eggrobo ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Sweetie, these days 10 minutes for an opening cutscene is pretty conservative. In, say, RPG's, sure. It's not only expected but welcomed, because ridiculous drama amuses me. Platformers are not on my list of games that are allowed ridiculous cut scenes. Yeah, but... In Super Mario Sunshine it's abo...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
So judging by the responses I've gotten on other forums, I'm pretty much the only person who has noticed and/or cares that the "Rings as a Lifebar" stuff is basically how things are probably always going to function forever and ever? It started in Shadow, continued in Secret Rings, and is now found ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I don't think you can say much about the power of the PS3 vs. the power of the 360. They both have varying strengths and weaknesses. There is, though, one rule of thumb: Games that were designed for the Xbox 360 are usually difficult to port to the Playstation 3, and when you have a multi-platform g...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
http://www.theghz.com/forum/download/file.php?id=57 I... I don't think that's what a final level will look like. It's a common technique to apply checkered patterns on 3D models to see how the UV texturing will turn out before attempting to texture it. Actually , I think that's the collision editor...

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
You gotta admit, the artwork shown in this new batch is still lightyears better than what we last saw. Lightyears better? They look the damn same. barely anything has improved since the first batch of screens. instead of an awkward pink border to the traced sonic X artwork we now have a chunky whit...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I don't feel like biting the bullet after the last trailer, so what happens? It's set up like some sort of paranormal documentary like Monster Quest or something, following a strange creature around the globe that only comes out during the night. Lots of "amateur" footage, all of it is unfocused an...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Sometimes I wonder if SEGA has always been trying to make Sonic as fast as possible right from the very beginning, and the only thing that kept the franchise from becoming too speed-dominated was hardware limitations. Sonic was and always has been a product of the times, I think. Back then, everybo...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I guess. But, I mean, I did say Sonic's speed and physics system was what made him unique, and the physics system - the momentum - was a method for building speed. Most people don't understand the how, they just remember the result: blitzing through Green Hill or Chemical Plant or Mushroom Hill at 2...

Re: Miyamoto bitch slaps SEGA
Regardless of what they asked him, in the quote he talks specifically about things like character and world history, not bugs or rushing to market. Also, extras have nothing to do with polish. The most shitty, bug-filled game in the world could still be full of hidden characters, developer commenta...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
It was, however, a major selling point. It's what everybody remembers about the franchise the most. I will be the first person to admit there was more to Sonic than just running fast, but to most people, from day one, that's what the game was defined as. Speed. Attitude. And more layers of parallax ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
If you guys are seriously going to try and convince me that Sonic's speed was just an advertising gimmick, I'm... I don't even know what I'm going to do, because that's just so... I can't even think of a word for it.
I suppose it's been 17 years of brainwashing then? Brilliant.

Re: Miyamoto bitch slaps SEGA
I'm kinda thinking that's more to do with stylistic choices than anything particularly bad about Sega games, if you can remember 1993 there was something pretty distinctive about the games on the Genesis that you didn't really get on the SNES and it wasn't just low color count. Whatever that distin...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Sonic was never about super speed, it was about platforming in action packed levels. The speed was just a bonus! not the main focus! It was totally the main focus. Even from the very first ad for Sonic 1 in the US, the tagline was "Think fast." The game had a lot more to it than just speed, but it ...

I bought the first Ratchet & Clank game a few months ago and I was surprised at how fun it is. I've heard they're really great except for Deadlocked. And I was super bored with the Deadlocked demo so... yeah.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I think a lot of people know what they want in a Sonic game. It's just thanks to Sega and the hojillion different interpretations of Sonic over the years, everybody wants something completely different and nobody can ever agree on what the perfect Sonic game would be. We've got fans of the old games...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
If I remember right, tapping B gave you that crappy useless "team ball attack" thing where Tails and Knuckles organize themselves in some convoluted fashion in order to thrust Sonic ridiculously fast forward... which was damn hard to control and served little to no practical usage at all. Yeah, but...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
There you were, ruinning and stuff, and you wanted to turn into a ball, just press DOWN and there it is. SA1 had the B button for that. SA2 killed it completely. No more running spindash for you Sonic. Say goodbye to that and hello to crappy useless sommersault. The sommersault is for me the moment...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
They removed the spindash because 3D Sonic games became less about "rolling a ball down hill"-style momentum and more about "do a never ending string of cool looking moves" momentum. Acrobatics with timed button presses and all that stuff. I am of the opinion that "cool moves"momentum isn't any less...
