Re: All-new 2D Sonic rolling out in 2010

Well, if Sega had nothing to do with the creation of Sonic Genesis, then I guess piling shit on them would be like blaming them for the mediocrity of Bioware's Sonic outing. Which I'll gladly do. Give Sega a choice of developers and, gosh darn it, they'll without fail find the most mediocre choice a...

Re: All-new 2D Sonic rolling out in 2010

Remember that time Sega tried to make Sonic 1 on the Gameboy Advance? I do, and that's why I'm confident that if anyone can screw up an opportunity this golden, it's Sega.

Once again they'll snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Re: Sonic's Future Confirmed: expect more of the same

Yes, Mario has always been appealing to its demographic, but that demographic includes the same kids who enjoyed the games fifteen years ago but are now grown up. The Sonic franchise, meanwhile, seems focused wholly on screwing over everyone who had the nerve to get older. I can't believe he's even ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

Now, now. It's true that the second day boss goes through several bullet hell phases (never noticed anything remotely similar with the first boss), but the third boss confuses the thing by having it be a wall running section, where in every other part of the game you'd die instantly if you stopped ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

The previous day boss flights play like shmups. They all have segments like this, just different camera angles. To suddenly to not be able to add 2 and 2 in this instance you have to be pretty slow. Now, now. It's true that the second day boss goes through several bullet hell phases (never noticed ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

Never heard about falling if you slow down though, that part of it's on autopilot isn't it? I can assure you, that it isn't. When I try to dodge by breaking, I fall off the wall and die. Not trying to dodge leads me to get hit and loose all my rings. Attempting to jump over the many many incoming p...

and the atrocious Tails stages - of which I think you're only forced to play once, thank god. Twice, but it's the exact same level all over again with a different background and a slight increase in targets. Yes, even the boss at the end gets repeated. Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but...

Re: How appropriate you fight like a cow

The series sucks since the fourth game? That's a mighty impressive effort since zero new Monkey Island adventures have surfaced since number four - which kinda sucked, yes. But Curse of Monkey Island was awesome, and I'd love to go through the original Secret of Monkey Island with the Curse voice ca...

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega

I rate games on how much I enjoy them. I see. Your main problem is that your extremely subjective input is being accidentally viewed as objective input. Clearly I have been in error, and shall remedy my mistake by no longer taking you seriously. "Shittiest game in the last decade" Wow. If that's no...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

I had 300 points collecting dust on my XBox Live profile, so I foolishly checked out the Chu-Nan level pack. Emphasis on the "foolishly". Have you ever seen those Super Mario World ROM hacks, like Kaizo Mario World, where the levels are designed with every sadistic cheapness the designers can think ...

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega

I don't get all the bottomless pit complaints about Sonic Rush. There was exactly one level out of the entire game where I had to struggle to avoid pit deaths, and that was the way high up in the air level with all the rails and scaffolding - the one level where falling down is an appropriate hazard...

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega

Better than Sonic Rush, how? Better graphics, no. Better gameplay, no. Better sound, no. Better plot...n-maybe. Better lastability, fuck no. Chronicles could've gone another round of testing for pure gameplay balance and flow. There's really no excuse for labelling Evasion as Defense and Accuracy as...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

These people sure do love their masochists. I recall that Sonic 06 offered the opportunity to pay to play even harder versions of the already near-unplayable levels. The masochism thing would also nicely explain why they keep reducing the fucking score to fucking zero every time you fucking die in e...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

According to wikipedia (because evidently I'm too lazy to simply insert the disc into my 360 and see for myself) they also released a patch that improves the frame rate in the Werehog stages. Which is a greater level of professional pride than I've come to expect from Sonic Team. Frankly, I'm surpri...

Re: Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection

Hey, RPGs are great, it's just that the extreme majority of them are bogged down with filler so bad you'd think it had to define the genre. Take Chrono Trigger, which is a JRPG to boot, which is short and sweet, filled with to-the-point cutscenes that never last longer than about a minute and a half...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

Cutscenes really are unskippable on the PS2 version? I assume that means the Wii one as well. It's not just some ludicrously obscure method of skipping cutscenes, like having to press Start five times in a row? Press Start 5 times, what the hell was up with that? If the creators were so determined t...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

The load times were reasonable, too. I wonder what else Sega's gonna use the Hedgehog Engine for. I wouldn't mind if they simply made another Sonic Unleashed. Comprised solely of title character gameplay, of course, and learning from the mistakes of level design made in the first game while retaini...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

That's the thing, isn't it? When I first played FF8, I didn't know what I was doing, wasted too much time drawing when I could've been refining, and got my ass kicked by the later bosses. Then, when playing the game again and having a good idea what to do, I became very quickly overpowered and had t...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

I'd say FF8 gets such a bad rep because the combat boils down to standing still and drawing spells for twenty minutes, then fighting for forty seconds. Bizarrely, the exact same is true for the plot. Ninety percent of it is just listening to the main character moping and introspecting while juggling...

Re: YE' GADS!!! Sonic '06 finally does something good!

except for those split-second pole grabs Hold B during jumps to automatically grab any handhold. It's the game's greatest anti-frustration feature, and they hide it away behind a souvenir sidequest instead of making it an unavoidable hint bubble in the first werehog level. The concept of enjoyment ...

Re: YE' GADS!!! Sonic '06 finally does something good!

These games aren't worthy to be bundles with Sonic 06 and its awesome soundtrack, pretty good level design and horribly flawed everything else! Good level design is worth absolutely nothing when the gameplay used to traverse it is completely broken. Thus, you're left with nothing to praise but its ...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

Oh god, the chao garden. It was fine as an optional gimmick and minigame, but making it mandatory to master for anyone with the gall to want to play 3D Green Hill in Sonic Adventure 2 was cruel. So many hours wasted. After the final emblem, I have never ever loaded up the chao garden again, and can'...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?

I said the Super Sonic battle was cool and fun to play, but I've never had Chip die on me or had any trouble hitting the snakes or dodging the boulders . Which is admittedly weird, since I died dozens of times during the earlier part of the final boss battle, and deemed it all utter shit. Try pressi...
