Re: Touch me!

Final Freeway 2R ( trailer ) It's a straight up Outrun clone that uses tilt controls and gas/brake buttons. You can't drift (I guess that's an Outrun 2 thing) but these guys really nailed the feel and it's quite nice looking. Aaaand, it's gone, even the premium version, which I actually bought. So ...

Re: Touch me!

Another game in the same vein as above. Tsunami Cruiser is a twin stick shooter, with the wrinkle being you're limited to horizontal movement. However as its name implies waves happen and increase in intensity as the game progresses. The crests and troughs don't slow you down or speed you up, but th...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Did that damned tanuki build an engine that's powered by the power of team work, or am I nuts. Seems pretty blatant emotions are a fuel source in Sonic's reality, question mark??

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Because the alter is the only place he can feed off the Emeralds indirectly, like how its simulacrum in the Ark implies it's a place designed to harness CE energy. He took the Emeralds with him because he didn't want to destroy his alter, and also maybe doing such would allow him to feed on more neg...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

The Japanese Wiki page uses 太陽 柱 . I cross checked the Chaotix manual and it shows up in there for the story section. Then there's the ME being used to generate a laser through a lens here: http://www.soniczone0.com/games/sonicandknuckles/deathegg/sk-dez-boss3img9.png http://www.soniczone0.com/games...

Also tangentially related : The origins of the Chaoskampf myth most likely lie in the Proto-Indo-European religion[citation needed] whose descendants almost all feature some variation of the story of a storm god fighting a sea serpent representing the clash between the forces of order and chaos. And according to Wikipedia : A light pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in the form of a vertical band of light which appears to extend above and/or below a light source. The effect is created by the reflection of light from numerous tiny ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere or clouds. ...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Hirokazu Yasuhara claims credit for the "Mary Garnet" story, so I assume he was responsible for Sonic 1-R's continuity. He may have even oversaw CD and the Game Gear games, in a similar manner to how Ohshima approved new characters. It's possible that this pillar could be a pillar of light? Also, ha...

Turns out it's an alternate Atari 2600 ad. I wasn't aware there was another besides this gem.

don't know if this will interest anyone here, but that famous Dreamcast commercial wherein Sonic DJs showed up in the demo reel: https://youtu.be/_0ZHQ70hr5Q It's no real surprise that the same company -- which has been part of DreamWorks since -- was also responsible for Antz and Homer³ considering...

Re: Megaman 11

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/game/ps4-xbox-one-pc-switch/mega-man-11/.137583 Apparently it's above decent. The major criticism is the lack of parsability at times, particularly during robot master encounters. I'm inclined to believe that would've been a non-issue had it been true 2D, like...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Anyways, would to stand to reason that Giant Rings functioning as goals from SA2-onwards might be because they're made by Eggman to zip around faster than otherwise possible? Maybe that's also why CEs are frequently seen outside SSes; they're no longer secure locations.

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Reading that again, it occurred to me that the Dark Ring could be the Chaos Ring Eggman witnessed being minted, only this one was corrupted by him somehow. If there are seven Emeralds, then it's likely there are seven CRs, too. Also this: The flickies were coming and going through subspaces by using...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

On further thought, I guess it makes a modicum of sense that some(a lot of?) people -- most pertinently Ian Flynn -- lumped Bark and Bean with Fang on account that a), they were essentially tabalu rasa whose only appearance was an anarchic free-for-all, and b), Fang happens to be a traditional secon...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

Eggman also has blue in his pallet--his pince-nez. In fact, it is the same exact blue as Sonic's fur . Note also his shirt is the exact same as Sonic's sneakers, and his cape is a just-ever-so-slightly different yellow from Sonic's buckles. It's possible that for technical reasons they have the two ...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

It's probably a derailment to go on about color theory here (if so, then a mod can break off my brain droppings into a new thread), but I have some other observations I want to point out. Furthering my weirdo fixation with the RBY theme, it's now the secondary colors in Sonic's world--purple, orange...

Re: Revenge of the nerds

I don't really have anything salient to add vis-a-vis Choas Emeralds; y'all clearly have put in more consideration there. But I do have a few observations, some perhaps blindingly obvious. First off, the colors the CEs took on from Sonic R-onwards are the two sets of primary colors, the additive RGB...

Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes

So Sega greenlit remasters based on fan reverese-engineered code rather than supplying the originals. That does seem characteristic of them, honestly. Although I'm no programmer, so I do wonder if the remasters would feel more like the original MD versions if they weren't based on educated guestimat...

The aforementioned Gamasutra article . I feel kinda letdown that I wasn't cognizant of Sega Smash Pack when it was retailing. It looks decent for what it is! Sound quality aside (which to be fair the GBA is notoriously for). To think that an unassuming outsourced project inadvertently saved this ga...

I didn't even know there was a GBA port. If it does indeed exist, Mobygames, GameFAQs, SonicRetro, and even this site's museum page somehow don't acknowledge it. The gamasutra article that mentions it is the only source aside from you I've ever heard of it. As for the code itself, Sega presumably ne...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

Tails and Knuckles were confirmed ages ago. Kinda makes one wonder how much they cost apiece. I imagine of the three Tails is the most expensive if the animators are true to his restless rump syndrome and generally more complex design. It would be a touch mystifying if Amy is left out entirely, as s...

Re: Sonic 1 and 2 getting Sonic CD style remakes

I know how much y'all love my continued bumping of this dusty thread, but I just learned from this video that Spinball's source code still exists. Nearly all of the non-ST MD Sonic games have fortuitously preserved SC, yet Sega won't remaster them. The video also mentions Ecco, but at least in that ...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

I'm not surprised Deadpool is so comparably low with its one CGI character that doesn't get much screentime. TMNT 2(?) is possibly the closest analogue with its prominent CGI abominations and kersplodey sets and such, so Sonic might actually be underbudget as it were. Had no idea they were still mak...

Re: James Marsden taking lead role in Sonic the Hedgehog mov

Made me curious about budgets of recent film similar ostensible ilk. Peter Rabbit was 50 million, Paddington 2 was 40m, and Christopher Robin was "70-75"m. This exceeds a major Disney movie. What. Granted, all aforementioned are rather sedate not even comparing what anything Sonic-themed will surely...
